TC softball concludes post-season play

The No. 4 seeded Tabor softball team ended its season with an 18-25 overall record after going 1-2 in the KCAC Softball Tournament this past weekend.

The Bluejays lost to Ottawa in the opening round, then defeated McPherson before being eliminated with a loss to Kansas Wesleyan.

TCBsBFUSeegerDBLPLAY First baseman Kevin Seeger catches a pass from second baseman Art Corona to complete the 6-4-3 double play that ended the bottom of the 10th inning in Tabor’s 5-2 victory over Friends Friday. Tabor finished the KCAC tournament in second place after a 6-0 loss to Sterling in Saturday’s championship but received an at-large bid to the NAIA national championship opening round. Despite dropping two games to No. 2 seeded Sterling in the double elimination KCAC tournament at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Tabor’s baseball season is not finished yet.

The Bluejays (38-14) were one of 16 schools to receive an at-large bid—a result of the final NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll—and will play in the NAIA Baseball National Champion­ship Opening Round May 9-13.

Harvey signs for Dordt basketball

JessicaHarveyBBsigning   Goessel High School senior Jessica Harvey signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play basketball next year at Dordt College. Harvey was a first-team all-league selection her senior year and earned honorable mention all-state honors from the Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital Journal. She was named to the KBCA third-team all-state team. Harvey led the Bluebirds in every statistical category her senior season, averaging 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and two steals. GoertzensignBethelCropped Goessel High School senior Tia Goertzen signed a letter of intent April 17 to play volleyball next year at Bethel College. During her career at Goessel, Goertzen recorded 589 kills, 695 digs and 124 ace serves. She was named to the Kansas Volleyball Association All-Academic Team in 2011 and 2012. TC track earns four golds at Southwestern

TCtrackHomeTynanshot419 Tynan Honn, pictured throwing the shot put at Tabor’s invitational meet April 19, took the gold in the shot put at Southwestern Saturday with a throw of 43 feet, 7.75 inches, a distance that broke her school record and qualified her for nationals. The Tabor track and field teams took part in the Southwestern Relays Saturday.

The Tabor men earned two second-place finishes: Nathan Vogel in the 800 (1 minute, 54.96 seconds) and Ryan Chippeaux with a tie in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches).

Three Bluejays placed third: Tyson Brockel in the 400 (53.03), Joel Allen in the 5,000 (15:31.76), and Michael Klaassen in the shot put (44-1.5).
