TC teams in top 3 at KCAC meet

Emily Post lands a meet record and NAIA-best triple jump of 40 feet, 1.25 inches at the KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Tuesday. Post claimed gold in triple jump, high jump and long jump to help lead the Bluejays to a third-place team finish. She will compete in all three events at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships held in Marion, Ind., May 23-25. Tabor hosted the KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Joel H. Wiens Stadium Monday and Tuesday.

“The men’s and women’s teams rose to the occasion and really performed well at our conference meet,” coach Dave Kroeker said.

For the men, 14 top-three finishers led the team to a second-place finish with 149 points behind Friends (182) in a field of 10 teams.

Wes Moody, shown here stroking a hit against Friends in the KCAC tournament May 3, went 3-for-5 at-bat against San Diego Christian Saturday and had two RBIs. Moody’s one-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning tied the game at 7-7 and forced an extra inning, but Tabor fell in 10 innings, 9-7, to end its national championship bid. It was a good run for the Tabor baseball team this weekend at the NAIA National Baseball Championship Tournament opening round in Santa Clarita, Calif.

The only midwest team in the bracket, Tabor fell just short of reaching the championship game, falling to San Diego Christian in 10 innings.

Kayla Johnston knocks out a double in the bottom of the third inning against Ottawa Friday. Johnston contributed one RBI on 2-for-3 hitting in a game Tabor lost, 9-3. The No. 4 seeded Tabor softball team ended its season with an 18-25 overall record after going 1-2 in the KCAC Softball Tournament this past weekend.

The Bluejays lost to Ottawa in the opening round, then defeated McPherson before being eliminated with a loss to Kansas Wesleyan.

Tabor finished the KCAC tournament in second place after a 6-0 loss to Sterling in Saturday’s championship but received an at-large bid to the NAIA national championship opening round. Despite dropping two games to No. 2 seeded Sterling in the double elimination KCAC tournament at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Tabor’s baseball season is not finished yet.

The Bluejays (38-14) were one of 16 schools to receive an at-large bid—a result of the final NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll—and will play in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round May 9-13.

Goessel High School senior Jessica Harvey signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play basketball next year at Dordt College. Harvey was a first-team all-league selection her senior year and earned honorable mention all-state honors from the Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital Journal.
