Street project under way in Hillsboro

Workers with Barkley Construction, Wichita, began removing the asphalt surface of Date Street on the west side of Hillsboro Monday morning. The peak of the street will be lowered as part of a larger improvement project that involves Date, Cedar and Birch streets. Barkley submitted the low bid of $391,000; most of the cost will covered by a Community Development Block Grant.

The Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale for the 45th time is inviting the public to have fun while changing the world April 12 and 13 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.The annual sale, sponsored by Kansas Mennonite, Brethren in Christ and Amish congregations, raises funds for Mennonite Central Committee—a world relief organization.

Easter bunny participates in egg hunt

A couple hundred children participated in the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club Easter egg hunt Saturday in Hillsboro’s Memorial Park. According to Clint Seibel, Kiwanis member, about 200 baskets were handed out, leaving 50 to distribute later to charitable organizations in town. The Easter bunny could also be found hopping among the children or wandering around getting his picture taken with families.
