Pumpkin project takes off at First Mennonite Church

FirstMennoPumpkins.jpg FirstMennoPumpkins.jpg A small army of volunteers, including members of the Tabor College men’s and women’s basketball teams, were on hand Sunday to unload the truck load of pumpkins for the FMC Pumpkin Patch. In bucket-brigade fashion, the pumpkins came off the truck (left photo), were tossed to Kelly Linnens and then to Drew Maddox (lower left photo) and down a row of TC athletes until it got to men’s coach Micah Ratzlaff for display placement.

Local physician calls for county hospital vote

Randal Claassen, physician from Hillsboro, asked the Marion County Commission Monday to take charge of elections for a single county hospital to replace the two existing ones at Marion and Hillsboro.

He predicted the existing hospitals would continue to be used as clinics.

Claassen said a county-wide election for public financing of such a hospital would probably pass, while a vote by just the western half to join the public financing that already exists in the eastern half would probably...

Business gain from wet art fair

The consensus is clear. Despite adverse weather for the Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair on Sept. 15, visitors poured into local businesses and made the day a booming financial success.

“We doubled our business for the day,” said Joe Hampton, Alco store manager. “We actually did more (business) than we do the day before Christmas. I had a tremendous day.”

Hampton said Alco ran four registers all day, compared to the usual two registers.
