Hillsboro looks to create new revitalization zones

The Hillsboro City Council authorized the development of a proposal at its Sept. 22 special meeting that could significantly increase the number of property owners who could take advantage of the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization Plan.The NRP exempts property owners from paying property taxes for up to 10 years on the increase in the appraised value of their property after they make a significant improvement to the property.

Hillsboro Museums received word Jan. 16 that it has been awarded a grant from the Kansas Humanities Council that should result in a significant step forward in the professional presentation of the city’s two museums.The grant of $12,089 will be used to create a new orientation exhibit within the museums’ visitor center located on Memorial Drive. Domestic calls on the rise during winter

The call can come in at any time of the day or night: a report or suspicion of domestic violence occurring in a Hillsboro home.Lately those calls have been coming in more frequently than normal, according to Police Chief Dan Kinning.
“The past couple of months, we’re going through a spurt—and, hopefully, that’s all it is,” Kinning said.
