USD 410 identifies $500,000 in budget cuts, if necessary

The USD 410 Board of Edu­ca­tion, in a special meeting Wednesday night, April 29, approved several personnel adjustments in an attempt to address expected revenue declines in the ballpark of $500,000 for the 2009-10 school year.

Decisions to not renew staff contracts have to be made by May 1.

The board accepted the resignation of Anita Boese, media specialist for the high school and middle school, who accepted the board’s early-retirement benefit. Her position will not be filled...

StormDamage599.jpg StormDamage599.jpg Some parts of Marion County were hit with winds from 70 to 90 mph early Sunday evening, causing damage to more than 30 outbuildings and three homes.

Neighbors begin to dismantle what’s left of a steel building on the farm yard of Steve Hanneman southeast of Hillsboro. It was one of many buildings in the rural Ebenfeld community that was severely damaged by straight-line winds Sunday night.

Becky Carlson: “I was pretty humbled by it.”

 

Carlson, who spent the first 21 of her 25 years in high school coaching at HHS, has been at Iola High School the past four seasons.

Cruisers give city early 125th birthday gift

With its 125th anniversary approaching, the city of Hills­boro received one of its first birthday presents Tuesday, April 21, when the city council accepted a donation from the Route 56 Classic Cruisers for improvements at Memorial Park.

The check for $671.50 from the organization for classic-car enthusiasts is designated to repair and rejuvenate the shelter house on the west side of the park.
