Brenda Reimer has made her impact at the Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair not by thinking big, but by thinking small.

Over the past 15 years that she’s had a booth at the local show, Reimer has developed a following of clients who love her handmade trees that they can decorate throughout the year with thematic miniature ornaments.

Jail tours attract some 500 visitors

Craft said the response of the public was positive. “I was pleased that people came to see what the project was and the type of facility it is going to be—clean, safe and orderly run. Accommodations in the new Marion County Jail will differ according to the needs of the prisoner. CowboyPoet7447 Max Ewert, a Marion High School graduate, swaps stories with Bill Holdeman after reading several selections of cowboy poetry Thursday at the Marion Historical Society. More than 40 people listened as Max Ewert, a published cowboy poet, read some of his favorite selections Thursday at the Marion Historical Society.

A 1960 graduate of Marion High School, Ewert said he has done a lot of things in his life, but prior to retirement, he spent 24 years working at Crested Butte Ski Resort in Colorado.

“I was in maintenance and my job description was doing what nobody else wanted to do,” he joked. “Actually, we did a little bit of everything.”

Goessel Elementary named a Title I Reward School

Goessel Elementary School has been identified as a Title I Reward School by the Kansas Department of Education.

As such, GES is among the top 10 percent of Title I schools through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act Flexibility Waiver.

The achievement is for academic performance based on the past four years of combined state reading and math assessments.
