New Community Chorale harmonizing for the joy of it

Twenty people from across Marion County, ranging in age from 16 to 70, turned out to sing. Director Bradley Vogel says the group would welcome many more voices.

A new sound is resonating from the Tabor College Music Department this year as a new mixed chorus called the Tabor College Community Chorale, takes the stage.

glorytrainhdr.jpg glorytrainhdr.jpg A steam train carrying about three dozen Fort Riley soldiers and their families rolled through Marion and Peabody Friday morning—giving local crowds an opportunity to thank the soldiers for their service in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo.

The soldiers rode the train from Herington to Wichita. Union Pacifichad offered similar treks to soldiers in other parts of the country.This was the first one in the Midwest.

School opts for different building site

Unified School District 410 will not be locating its central offices and transportation and maintenance center in the former AMPI building after all.

At a special meeting Wednes­day, the board approved the purchase of 10 acres immediately south of the city’s maintenance shop along the north end of Adams Street. It plans to build the facility on that site.

‘Musty’ water days should be over for local residents

The odd taste and odor emanating from Hillsboro’s residential water supply should be about gone by now—at least according to water department projections.

Dan Mount, of the water department staff, told the Hills­boro City Council at its Sept. 4 meeting that he expected the taste and smell to be back to normal within a week to 10 days of the meeting.
