Hali Krause and Hannah Bartel, fifth-graders at Hillsboro Elementary School, took advantage of some water-line maintenance by the city of Hillsboro to enjoy a cool shower on an otherwise warm Friday afternoon. The two girls made their splash at the corner of Kennedy and C streets. A few adult residents took advantage of the opportunity to get a free car wash. The warm temperatures seemed more like mid-summer than the waning days of the season...

Public can speak to zoning regs on alcohol

Hillsboro citizens will have a chance to offer their input in the way zoning guidelines should regulate businesses that want to offer liquor by the drink.The Hillsboro Planning Commission has called for a public hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in city hall as part of the process of formulating a zoning recommendation to the city council for its approval.
By virtue of state and county statutes, a city cannot disallow liquor by the drink within boundaries. However, it can regulate...
