Dates set for public meetings about new jail

The Marion County Board of Commissioners will host public meetings in three locations to present their plan for a new law enforcement and emergency communications facility.

The plan, to be voted on the Nov. 4 general-election ballot, calls for 72-bed, pay-to-stay facility at an estimated cost of $8.7 million. The project would be paid for with a 1 percent county-wide sales tax increase.

City to fund Salem Home improvements

The Hillsboro City Council approved at its Sept. 16 meeting a request from Salem Home for $34,540 from the Public Building Commission fund to bring the facility into compliance with the state as a free-standing senior-care facility.

Kelly Schlehuber made the request as chief executive officer and administrator of Salem Home, which became an independent entity Sept. 1 after operating under the wing of the former Hillsboro Community Medical Center as a long-term care unit.
