  • Marion library hosts its 4th annual tour

    KBATreblemakers2 The KBA Treblemakers performs Saturday night during the sixth annual Bluegrass at the Lake event at Marion County Park and Lake. This was the first year for the event to be held both Friday and Saturday nights. About 100 people attended Friday, and 300 attended Saturday, according to Steve Hudson, Marion County Lake superintendent.

    Now in its fourth season, Marion City Library’s Flower in the Flint Hills Garden Tour is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, with three locations in town and one at the county lake.

    Those places include 115 N. Elm St., 201 N. Coble, 412 S. Thorp and 48 Lakeshore Drive.

    In addition to touring the garden spots, Janet Marler, library director, is inviting everyone to stop by the facility for refreshments and a tour.

School opts for different building site

Unified School District 410 will not be locating its central offices and transportation and maintenance center in the former AMPI building after all.

At a special meeting Wednes­day, the board approved the purchase of 10 acres immediately south of the city’s maintenance shop along the north end of Adams Street. It plans to build the facility on that site.

‘Musty’ water days should be over for local residents

The odd taste and odor emanating from Hillsboro’s residential water supply should be about gone by now—at least according to water department projections.

Dan Mount, of the water department staff, told the Hills­boro City Council at its Sept. 4 meeting that he expected the taste and smell to be back to normal within a week to 10 days of the meeting.

Lance Booker, of the city street department, was busy leveling bricks last week in Hillsboro’s downtown business district. While traditionally not one of the tasks city workers undertake in preparation for the Arts & Crafts Fair, it will make the sidewalks safer and more aesthetically appealing when 40,000-plus buyers and browsers come to town Saturday. “It’s one of those neat things where somebody sees something, then sees something more and takes the initiative to get more of it done,” City Administrator Larry Paine said.
