  • Marion library hosts its 4th annual tour

    KBATreblemakers2 The KBA Treblemakers performs Saturday night during the sixth annual Bluegrass at the Lake event at Marion County Park and Lake. This was the first year for the event to be held both Friday and Saturday nights. About 100 people attended Friday, and 300 attended Saturday, according to Steve Hudson, Marion County Lake superintendent.

    Now in its fourth season, Marion City Library’s Flower in the Flint Hills Garden Tour is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, with three locations in town and one at the county lake.

    Those places include 115 N. Elm St., 201 N. Coble, 412 S. Thorp and 48 Lakeshore Drive.

    In addition to touring the garden spots, Janet Marler, library director, is inviting everyone to stop by the facility for refreshments and a tour.

Centre students mourn their loss

Centre High School classmates, teaches and staff fondly remembered senior Lance Selznick in special gatherings and hallway conversations Thursday, Friday and over the weekend.

Filing deadline approaches for local elections

The presidential election is still almost 10 months away, but voters in Marion County have decisions of local and county-wide importance to make much sooner than that.

City council seats in Hills­boro and Marion are on the line in the April 2 local election.

Kansans will caucus options for president

Kansas and Marion County voters will have a chance to add their collective voices to the presidential selection process when state Democrats and Republi­cans hold political caucuses during the first full week of February.

Long weighting list signs on for local ‘Biggest Loser’ battle

When Anna Woods and Jeanne Rziha discussed their goal for the number of participants in the Biggest Loser Marion County contest that began Jan. 8, they agreed they would be happy with 25 entrants.

As of the final weigh-in date Jan. 14, the number of participants reached 160.
