Unrau hits ace

McPherson golfer Trey Unrau recorded a hole-in-one Aug. 30 at Pine Edge Golf Course near Goessel, reports course owner Myron Schmidt.

Unrau used a driver to ace the 237-yard No. 8 hole. Witnessing the drive were Ethan Blouin, Blair Stucky and Shelby Sparks, all from Moundridge.

Darian Ratzlaff, 9, of Hillsboro, pedals through the bicycling segment of the Triple Threat Triathlon in Hillsboro Aug. 29 sponsored by Woods Wellness, Hillsboro. Thirty-eight children between the age of 6 and 14 years old competed in the event, which includes swimming, bicycling and running. The entries came from several Midwest states. Jacob Hall, 12, was the overall male winner with a cumulative time of 24 minutes, 41 seconds; Audrey Ash,12, was the top female finisher in 25:56. Braden Vogt, 11, was the first Hillsboro entrant to cross the finish line; he finished seventh in 28:52. Darian Ratzlaff finished 27th overall in 39:47. Gymnastics class offered

A gymnastics class is being offered in Hillsboro for students this fall and again next spring.

Cheri Marsh, instructor, said a 12-week full session will begin Tuesday, Aug. 31. A six-week half session will begin after spring break 2011.

Registration forms will be available at city hall in Hillsboro and at the Hillsboro Farmers Market from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Thursday.

Parents interested in having their children in the class should contact Marsh about openings at 620-367-8173.

   

Deadline for HRC flag football signup is Aug. 27

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission will be sponsoring youth flag football this fall.

The deadline to register is Aug. 27. Games will be on Saturday mornings starting Sept. 25, and will continue through Oct. 30. Games will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Hillsboro Sports Complex.

Teams will be divided as follows: first/second-grade co-ed; third/fourth-grade co-ed, and fifth/sixth-grade co-ed.

The cost will be $20 per participant. For more information call Doug Sisk, rec director, at 620-947-3490.

 

Meeting planned for fall leagues

A league association organizational meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Hillsboro Lanes, formerly named Trail Lanes, in preparation for fall leagues.

Anyone interested is invited to attend.
