Tabor Church plans chicken dinner
The annual Tabor Church Mennonite Men’s chicken barbecue will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8.
Donations will go toward Wednesday children’s programs and church facilities’ projects.
Free child screening coming to Goessel
Marion County Early Intervention will offer a screening for children birth through age 5 Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Goessel Mennonite Church, 109 S. Church St.
Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. At the screening, children will be checked for development in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing also will be screened.
This process usually takes at least one hour to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.
Focus to be on missions Nov. 11
First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro invites everyone to hear Linda Shelly of Mennonite Mission Network at its 9:30 a.m. Sunday School hour and 10:35 a.m. worship service on Nov. 11 for Mission Sunday.
Shelly was director for Mission Relationship in Latin America since 2002. She served nine years as the Latin America/Caribbean program director for MCC.
She plans to share news from MMN in Latin American, particularly the work and developments in Argentina.
Linda will share during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday School hour and will bring the message during the 10:35 a.m. Worship Service. An offering for MMN will be taken. A meal will follow. All are welcome to attend.
TEEN will meet in Marion Nov. 14
The Technology Excellence in Education Network (TEEN) will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the USD 408 district office at 101 N. Thorp, Marion.

Drug plan help in Goessel Nov. 15
The Marion County Department on Aging has changed the day and time it will provide 2013 Medicare prescription drug enrollment assistance at the Goessel City Building.
Gayla Ratzlaff, department coordinator, will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, to compare plans and enroll participants.

4-H Fund meeting set for Nov. 12
The annual meeting of the Marion County 4-H Endowment Fund (formerly called Marion County 4-H Development Fund) will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Cooperative Grain & Supply office at 135 N. Main. Hillsboro.
The board of directors invites anyone interested to attend the meeting.
Peabody plans Vets Day meal, music
The public is invited to celebrate Veterans Day with a chili and dessert meal and music program in Peabody starting at noon Sunday, Nov. 11, at the American Legion. Entrance will be through the back door.
Twelve-year-old Valen Sladen will sing the national anthem at 12:30 p.m. Valen was selected through a competition at Wichita State University to sing the national anthem before several Shocker basketball games this year.
Robin Roberts and Billie Preston will follow with a folk, blues and bluegrass program.
The event is being sponsored by Peabody American Legion Auxiliary. The meal is by donation.
Baptist church welcomes author
Cottonwood Valley Baptist Church is hosting a Bible Conference Sunday, Nov. 11, through Wednesday, Nov. 14, with author Jerry Chaney of Chillicothe, Ohio.
Chaney has written more than 40 books and travels as an evangelist. Services are at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Sunday morning service will include a special tribute to veterans.
