Vouchers available for local markets
The Marion County Department on Aging is offering vouchers for local farmers markets in the county starting May 7.
To be eligible, candidates must be age 60 or older and meet these income guidelines: a household of one with a gross monthly income of $1,723; a household of two, $2,333; a household of three, $2,944; a household of four, $3,554; a household of five, $4,165; a household of six, $4,775.
Participants need to sign up at the Hillsboro Senior Center at 212 N. Main St., or the Marion County Department on Aging at 309 S. Third St., Marion.
Each qualifying household will receive $30 worth of vouchers for the season. The vouchers can be used to purchase fresh vegetables and fruits sold by authorized vendors.
The vouchers cannot be used to purchase flowers, crafts, eggs, nuts, rice, processed foods, dried produce, dried herbs or baked goods.

Free child screening in Hillsboro May 8
Marion County Early Intervention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through 5 years old Tuesday, May 8, at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.
Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
At the screening, development will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing will also be screened.
This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.
4-H sewing group needs donations
The Happy Hustlers 4-H Sewing Project is sponsoring a countywide Sew-a-thon, tentatively set for May 12.
The 4-Hers will be making "Little Dresses and Britches" for African children using a simple pattern provided by the organization on its website. The group needs cotton fabric or pillowcases, bias tape for the dresses and new or lightly used T- shirts for the britches.
In addition to donations, anyone who would like to sew is encouraged to bring scissors and a machine.

Country Stitchers to meet May 7
Country Stitchers Quilt Guild is meeting at 7:30 p.m. May 7 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 East D St.
The guest speaker is Nancy Jo Leachman discussing, “History on a Piece of Cloth.”
The program is free to members. Guests will pay $2.
