The Mennonite Heritage Museum annual meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Newton.

Along with annual reports, board election and other business, Ann M. Richardson of Hutchinson will "show and tell" about her extensive autographed handkerchief collection.

Series on heaven at Ebenfeld church

Pastor Gaylord Goertzen will be teaching a six-part Bible study on heaven at 7 p.m. Sundays starting Jan. 14 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church.

Other dates will be Jan. 28, Feb. 11, Feb. 25, March 11 and March 25.

The public is invited to attend.

'Cyber predator' workshop at CGHS

The Canton-Galva High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America will sponsor a "cyber predator" workshop with educational specialist Kevin Honeycutt at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, in the high school commons.

Honeycutt will inform adults about what students are dealing with on the "digital playground" of the Internet.

Computer classes at Florence library

In cooperation with the Florence Public Library, Reliance Energy Partners will offer "Common Sense Computer Classes" for adults starting Jan. 16.

A sign-up meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Florence Public Library.

There will be no certification or credit hours offered, only the opportunity for fun and self-improvement.

Class size will be limited to four to six persons each, with at least three identical sessions planned of seven classes each.

Subjects to be covered are Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, Internet, E-Bay and "How to Turn My Computer On."

MCSEC board plans Jan. 15 meeting

The Marion County Special Education Cooperative board of directors will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in the MCSEC conference room at 302 W. Eighth in Florence.

HCMC volunteer meeting Jan. 16

The Hillsboro Community Medical Center volunteer auxiliary will meet for an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the HCMC Conference Room.

Groundbreaking for Harvest Meadows

A groundbreaking celebration for Harvest Meadow housing development will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at the development site, located across from the Bethesda Home in Goessel.

The public is invited to join the children of Hilda Unruh-Janice and Verney Voth, Martha Unruh and Tom Szambecki and Duane and Karen Unruh- in celebrating the development of affordable housing in the Goessel community.

Pancake feed Jan. 15 in Marion

A free pancake feed will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Marion Assisted Living, 200 Eisenhower.

Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be served.

The public is invited to attend.

Storytime starting Jan. 17 at library

Signup has begun for the next three-month session of storytime for 3-year-olds through kindergartners at the Hillsboro Public Library, set to begin Jan. 17 and 18.

Classes will be offered from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays and from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursdays.

Class sizes are limited to 12 children each, so visit or call the library at 947-3827 to enroll in the $3 class.

The library also will offer a free 15-minute laptime session for 18-month-olds through 2-year-olds and a parent at 10:15 .m. on the first and third Tuesday mornings of each month starting Jan. 16. Call the library to sign up.

Lincolnville sets center rental rates

The city of Lincolnville has approved rental rates for its new Lincolnville Community Center.

There will be no charge for rental of the building by non-profit organizations in the tri-county area. A $100 deposit will be refundable after inspection of the building following its use.

Rental for public use costs $50 for one to four hours, $100 for more than four hours, with a $200 deposit.

Rental costs $50 for use by non-local non-profits, with a $200 deposit.

St. Luke prohibits concealed weapons

In response to a Kansas law enacted July 1 allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons, St. Luke Hospital will be enforcing a policy prohibiting handguns, pistols or revolvers in its facility and on all hospital property.

The law allows private entities such as hospitals to ban weapons on their premises. Individuals with a license to carry a concealed weapon are not exempt from the hospital's ban.

Visitors may store firearms in vehicles in parking lots, as long as they are stowed in accordance with Kansas law.

The only individuals permitted to carry a firearm on hospital premises are on-duty law enforcement officers or hospital security staff.
