Hillsboro library book group to meetThe Hillsboro Public Library book discussion group will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, May 11, in the City Building meeting room.
The book for this month is “The Persian Pickle Club” by Sandra Dallas.
It is not necessary to have read the book to come to the meeting.Museum friends plan lawn concert
The Friends of the Hillsboro Museums will hold the first of a series of “Concerts on the Lawn” at 4:30 p.m. May 12 at the historic Schaeffler House Museum.
In concert will be the popular Bob Delk and the Boys. The local group plays a variety of well-known contemporary folk and popular music. Opening for Delk and his group will be the high school’s “Spirit-N-Celebration” boys’...

(Pictured from left) Eldon Beneke, Wesley Fenske and Leland Chizek were recognized in a dinner meeting April 16 at Stone City Cafe in Marion with 60-year membership certificates and pins by the Gilbert-Poppe American Legion Post No. 347 of Lincolnville. Also receiving recognition but not present at the meeting were Lloyd Pagenkopf and Jim Ronsick.

Chat and Dine plans May 5 potluckMarion County Lake residents past and present will have their monthly Chat and Dine potluck meeting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the South Lake Hall.Hillsboro bands, choirs plan concerts
The Hillsboro middle and high school bands, directed by Gregg Walker, and choirs, directed by Lynn Just, will be presenting their final concerts on Thursday, May 10, at the Fine Arts Festival.
Middle-school bands will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the HHS Auditorium. All choirs will perform beginning with sixth grade at 7 p.m. in the HHS gym.
The HHS band and jazz band will round out the evening at 8 p.m. in the auditorium.

Turn off TV week at Hillsboro libraryIn honor of TV Turnoff Week from April 22 to April 28, Hillsboro Public Library has a bulletin board in the City Building with ideas of what to do with the television off.
Stop by the library and fill out a coupon letting us know what you like to do instead of watching television. Take a look at the fact sheets about the effects of television on reading, schoolwork and more.
Fund-raising supper at Goessel center
A barbecue pork supper, catered by Bob and Connie Boese will be served at 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Goessel Senior Center.
The fund-raiser will also feature music by Ann Dunn, violinist, and Wanda Ratzlaff, pianist. Cost is by donation.

Enrollment day for Head StartMarion County Head Start will hold an application fair for its free preschool program from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Marion Senior Center.
Income-qualifying families must bring the following items to enrollment: income verification, verification of birth, Social Security verification, health insurance card and immunication record.
