McLinden seeks rodeo crown

Lauren McLinden, 11-year-old daughter of Chuck and Lori McLinden of Marion, will compete in the Flint Hills Rodeo Princess contest at Strong City June 1-3. Contestants will be judged on public introduction, personal interview, horsemanship pattern, princess run and horsemanship interview. Winners will be announced during the Saturday night performance. Lauren is a member of the Kansas Junior Rodeo Association and is involved in the 4-H Horse Project and the Marion County horse judging team.

Water-safety day at Marion Reservoir

 

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a day of water safety awareness and courtesy boat inspections at the following boat ramps at Marion Reservoir from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19: Marion Cove, Hillsboro Cove, Cottonwood Point and French Creek Cove.

The event is part of the 2007 “Wear It” Campaign during National Safe Boating Week May 19-25, launched by the National Safe Boating Council in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Adminis­trators.

 Members of the Marion Junior Girl Scout Troop 58 pose with members of the Marion County 4-H Dog Project after the Scouts watched a demonstration by 4-Hers Lauren Geis, Lisa Geis and Lauren McLinden about dog care and training March 27 at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro. The three girls talked about obedience, showmanship and agility competition. The Scouts then watched the dogs run through an agility course and then had a chance to run the dogs through the course themselves. Hillsboro library book group to meet

 

The Hillsboro Public Library book discussion group will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, May 11, in the City Building meeting room.

The book for this month is “The Persian Pickle Club” by Sandra Dallas.

It is not necessary to have read the book to come to the meeting.Museum friends plan lawn concert

 

The Friends of the Hillsboro Museums will hold the first of a series of “Concerts on the Lawn” at 4:30 p.m. May 12 at the historic Schaeffler House Museum.

In concert will be the popular Bob Delk and the Boys. The local group plays a variety of well-known contemporary folk and popular music. Opening for Delk and his group will be the high school’s “Spirit-N-Celebration” boys’...
