SCMC to fete vets from WW II, Korea

­The board of directors of Senior Citizens of Marion County is seeking nominations of veterans who served during World War II and the Korean War.

The board intends to honor veterans of the two wars during the organization’s annual meeting Oct. 18 in Hillsboro.

Nominees should meet the following criteria:

• be a Marion County resident or be an active participant in a Marion County senior center;

• received an honorable discharge from the U.S. military;

• be willing to attend the SCMC annual meeting in Octo­ber.

Anyone can submit a nomination. Forms are available at local senior centers or through the Marion County Department on Aging, 620-382-3580.

Labor Day rally at Lake Perry

ABATE of Kansas, a community-minded motorcycle organization, is having its 37th annual National Labor Day Rally Aug. 31 through Sept. 3.

Organizers said there will be camping areas available, music and bike events all weekend.

Hamm family holds reunion July 8

The 26th annual Ed and Bertha (Hill) Hamm family reunion was July 8 at the Hillsboro Scout House.

The Ted Hamm family served as host family this year.

Relatives from Hillsboro in attendance were Alan and Bon­nie Hamm, Harold and Sandra Bezdek, Terry Hamm, Dennis Hamm, Howard Hamm, Chad Hamm and daughter Chris Hamm and family.

Lonnie and Donna Hamm, Larry and Ruth Hamm, Wayne and Carol Ollenburger, Danny and Candy Tucker and Wesley, Cherie and Tim Goossen, Wilber and Florence Hett, David and Krystal Paper and Duane and Shirley Hamm also attended from Hillsboro.

A 90th birthday party is planned for Irv Schroeder of Hillsboro from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Hillsboro Scout House in Memorial Park.

Delk to celebrate 90th Aug. 12

Elmer “Bob” Delk, born Aug. 7, 1922, will celebrate his 90th birthday with an open house dessert reception from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church, 1498 Kanza Road, Hillsboro.

The reception is being hosted by his family. Friends and relatives are invited at attend.

Joining him at the reception will be his wife, Dorothy, and daughters Donna and husband Dan Dalke, Barb and husband Dick Koontz, Shirley Delk and son Robert and wife Tina Delk.
