Homes needed for holiday home tour

The Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Association is looking for Hillsboro homeowners willing to open their homes for the association’s annual Home Tour from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

Homes should preferably be located in town, or within a three- to five-mile radius of Hillsboro.

Crop Walk 2007 to be held Oct. 7

 

Crop Walk 2007 will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Marion County Lake.

The churches of Marion and Hillsboro are working together on the project. People are needed both to walk and to support the walkers through donations.

Of the funds raised, 25 percent will serve families at the Marion County Food Bank.

 Photo competition to be held in Hays

 

The Hays Arts Council will hold the 24th annual Five-State Photography competition and exhibition in November.

Entries will be accepted from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma. Entry deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Alpha Omega to hold silent auction

The Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met Sept. 8 at the Wiebe Media Center at Hillsboro High School.

The next meeting will be Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Wiebe Media Center, and will include the annual silent auction, which is used to fund scholarships for women in Marion County who plan to pursue a teaching career.Mountain Man Rendezvous Oct. 5-6

The 13th annual Maxwell Wildlife Refuge Mountain Man Rendezvous will be held Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday Oct. 6 at the Refuge, located six miles north of Canton.

Participants will experience the life style of mountain men and women by demonstrating survival skills dressed in buckskins and furs.

Library accepting book donations

 

The Hillsboro Public Library is accepting book donations for its upcoming book sale at the end of September.

Only books in good condition will be accepted. Popular items include children’s books, Westerns and cookbooks.

Proceeds from the book sale will help purchase new materials for the library.

 Whitewater to host Bunco Tournament

 

The Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Bunco Tournament during Whitewater’s Fall Festival.

The tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at Remington Middle School in Whitewater.

Area Bunco players are invited to compete. Registration deadline is Sept. 22.

Storytime to begin Sept. 19 & 20

A new session of Storytime at the Hillsboro Public Library will begin Sept. 19 and 20.

The 40-minute sessions include book reading, activities and crafts for 3-year-olds through kindergartners.

Classes are offered from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m. or 1:45 to 2:25 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m. on Thursdays. There is a limit of 12 children per class. A $3 registration fee for the three-month session is required.
