Free child screening Dec. 11 in Florence

 

Marion County Early Inter­vention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through 5 years old Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Christian Church, 334 W. 5th, Florence.

Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

At the screening, children will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing also will be screened.

The process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.

Hillsboro blood drive set for Dec. 7

A community blood drive is planned for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Parkview Men­nonite Brethren Church, 610 S. Main, Hillsboro.

Citing the increased demand for blood because of recent natural disasters, organizers encourage people age 17 and older to make an appointment to donate by visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.

 

Tabor College band to perform Nov. 30

The Marion County Depart­ment on Aging is providing assistance to older adults interested in comparing and enrolling in 2013 Medicare prescription drug plans.

Open enrollment ends Dec. 7.

Staff will be available to take appointments from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, by appointment. Walk-ins are welcomes Thursday, Nov. 29 and Dec, 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Marion Senior Center.

Ratzlaff will be at the Hillsboro Senior Center Friday, Nov. 30. Call Brenda Moss at 620-947-2304 to set up an appointment.

Hymn sing planned Sunday in Hillsboro

 

The monthly community hymn sing begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at First Mennonite Church, Ash and Grand streets, Hillsboro.

This month’s theme, “Jehovah-Jireh: the God Who Provides,” will include singing, prayer and scripture reading.

Those attending will also have an opportunity to select favorite hymns to be sung.

Coordinating the hymn sing is Steve Vincent. Vocal music will be provided by Susan Jantzen, pastor, and Holly Swartzendruber.

Marion library to sponsor home tour

Marion City Library will sponsor its annual Christmas Home Tour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

Homes on the tour include Garry and Sharlyn Dunnegan, 41 Lakeshore, Marion County Lake (formerly Kingfisher’s Inn); Scott and Rolana Heidebrecht, 219 N. Third St.; Vickie Kraus, 307 Elm St.; Bruce and Belinda Skiles, 1914 Quail Creek Road, Highway 256 and refreshments at the library, 101 Library St.

Tickets are $5 and available at the library or at each home the day of the tour.
