National Yellow Dot program kits freeThe Hillsboro Lions Club is providing free Yellow Dot kits at its pancake feed from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 26.
The program is designed to provide first responders with information critical to treatment in the event someone is incoherent or unresponsive following an automobile accident or other medical emergency.
The critical “Golden Hour” following an accident is where essential medical information is required for appropriate and safe treatment.
The National Yellow Dot program can save lives with participants displaying the yellow dot sticker on their vehicle’s rear window, which will direct first responders to look for the yellow envelope in the glove box.

Huelskamp to stop in Hillsboro Jan. 9
Marion County is included among the first round of stops for Kansas First District Congressman Tim Huelskamp’s town hall meetings.
Huelskamp, recently sworn in for his second term to the U.S. House of Representatives, will meet with constituents from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Hillsboro Civic Center, 118 E. Grand.

Signup begins for Storytime at library
Children age 3 years through kindergarten can sign up for the next session of Storytime at the Hillsboro Public Library.
Storytime is a 40-minute class where children read books and enjoy activities and crafts led by children’s librarian Delora Kaufman. Classes begin Jan. 16 or 17.

Free child screening in Hillsboro Jan. 8Marion County Early Intervention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through age 5 on Tuesday, Jan, 8, at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.
Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
At the screening, development will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing also will be screened. This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete.
All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.

Library offering used books for saleHillsboro Public Library will be having a used-book sale in the hall outside of the library through Dec. 21.
All books are priced at $1 each. Selections will change on a daily basis.
“Hillsboro public library believes a book is a gift you can use again and again,” said librarian Cathleen Fish.
Proceeds from the book sale will be used to purchase new books for the library.
Silent auction to benefit charities
A silent auction for gift baskets benefiting local charities is taking place until Dec. 15.
Baskets are located in businesses around Hillsboro. A list of locations is available in participating businesses.
Proceeds will be donated to the winner’s choice of Main Street...
