Library selling bags of books for fundsHillsboro Public Library is selling books for $1 per bag through May 21. Proceeds will help fund library services.
The books are displayed on tables in the hallway in City Hall, 118 E. Grand.
Hymn sing set for May 20 at HMBC
The monthly community hymn sing is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.
Singing, prayer and scripture reading will be a part of the service.
This month’s theme is, “Wind, Fire and Stillness,” with Steve Vincent leading the service.

‘Circles of Hope’ topic of lake dinner
The Marion County Park and Lake Chat and Dine Club is having a potluck dinner Saturday, May 12.
According to organizers, all dinners this year will be on the second Saturday of the month to avoid the numerous activities that occur on the first weekends.
Lake resident Jackie Volbrecht will bring a presentation on the Circles of Hope organization at the meeting.

The family of Fred Carlson is hosting a birthday party in his honor from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 5 at the Hillsboro Scout House.
He is turning 70 and, those who know him are invited to celebrate this special event.

Vouchers available for local marketsThe Marion County Department on Aging is offering vouchers for local farmers markets in the county starting May 7.
To be eligible, candidates must be age 60 or older and meet these income guidelines: a household of one with a gross monthly income of $1,723; a household of two, $2,333; a household of three, $2,944; a household of four, $3,554; a household of five, $4,165; a household of six, $4,775.
Participants need to sign up at the Hillsboro Senior Center at 212 N. Main St., or the Marion County Department on Aging at 309 S. Third St., Marion.
Each qualifying household will receive $30 worth of vouchers for the season. The vouchers can be used to purchase fresh vegetables and fruits sold by...

Farmers Market to change locationThe Hillsboro Farmers Market will kick off its 2012 season May 3 in a new location.
The market will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the courtyard immediately north of Emprise Bank until further notice.
The market was moved for the time being to accommodate the new lawn planned for the Schaeffler House grounds.
May demo derby to add junior division
The Hillsboro Demolition Derby planned for Sunday, May 27, will offer a junior division in the Compact Figure 8 competition.
Young people between the ages of 14 and 16 are invited to enter their compact cars.
