It?s a new month, and if it looks like snow and schools are closed, the center is closed.

For those interested in a chair massage Wednesday, Feb. 3, give us a call. Alisa Schmidt, medical doctor, Hillsboro Community Hospital, is speaking after lunch Friday, Feb. 4, and Gayla Ratzlaff, Marion County Department on Aging coordinator, will help with Homestead tax. Call for an appointment.

First I would like to thank everyone who made our soup fundraiser such a success. It was a comfortable January evening, all the soups were delicious, the entertainment by the McKinney Sisters was spectacular and we had excellent attendance. Desserts were great, too.

Thank you for whatever contribution you made to our fundraiser.

Here we are already in February and with plenty of activities for the month. Watch our article so you will know what and when.

On Thursday, Feb. 4 and Feb. 9, we are making Valentines. Each year we do this and then hand them out to residents at the nursing homes and recipients of Meals on Wheels.

We have some supplies and everyone is welcome to bring more if they would like. Those helping don?t have to have any artistic talents. We want people having the desire to put a smile on someone?s face this Valentine?s Day. Come join us for lunch on these days and stay to make Valentines.

Birthday dinner is Wednesday, Feb 10. Come help us celebrate the birthdays of those born in February. This is a chicken dinner with all the trimmings.

Ash Wednesday is Feb. 10 and the beginning of Lent. Each Wednesday we will have an local pastor or spiritual leader provide a devotion for us.

For the start of Lent, pastor Jim Pohlman will be here. Then on Feb. 17 pastor Jim Truax is our spiritual leader and Feb. 24 pastor Angela DeFisher. These are non-denominational devotions for the Lent season.

?Dinner with the Doctor? will be Feb. 15. Randolph Whitely always presents health information in understandable format.

Our local board meeting is Monday, Feb. 15. The Marion County meeting is Friday, Feb. 19, and then the local business meeting is Tuesday, Feb 23. Brunch is at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 26 featuring a breakfast casserole. Leap Day is Feb. 29 and we are serving smothered pork chops.

We appreciate all the people who support the Peabody Senior Center and eat with us either on an regular or a occasional basis. You are all important to us and help to keep us open.

For more information or to make lunch reservations, stop by the center at 106 Walnut St., or call 620-983-2226. We have an answering machine for leaving a reservation or other messages, which are checked the following morning.
