Senior Scribbles

hillsboro senior center

We want to thank everyone who came to the center?s fundraising event in conjunction with Arts and Crafts Saturday. It was a great turnout.

Thanks also to Barkman Honey for helping to keep our center thriving by offering $2 for every $1 raised during the next 12 months.

We are so grateful for their help, and we hope more people can assist us, too.

Should you see Brent Barkman and Joyce Barkman, please thank them for their support.

Show and Tell is Friday, Sept. 25. Our birthday dinner is Sept. 28.

October menus are out, too.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. If you can help one or more days a month, we can use the help. As an added bonus, volunteers get their meal free the day they work.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

For more information on these things, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St. between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

PEABODY senior center

We survived the Senior Center Marion County board meeting and had a wonderful turn out with lots of good information being presented.

Next on the agenda is September brunch at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, with biscuits and gravy, coffee cake or cinnamon roll, fruit, and milk. This seems to be popular with people, and we hope you will like it, too. Join us by making reservations early.

The menus for October are available. We invite everyone to visit us at 106 N. Walnut and pick up a copy. Decide which days you would like to join us and then make your reservations at 620-983-2226.

Judy Mellott was our Sensational Sunflower for the Sunflower Fair in Salina this year. We were proud to have her represent us because she is always contributing to our center and our county.

Mellott volunteers in the kitchen and she and her husband help deliver meals each Thursday. She also is vice-president of our local board and just retired as chairman of the SCMC Board.

Peppernut season is here and we are cleaning the back room and washing all the equipment needed for baking those delicious little cookies. Contact the center to see what day it will begin, which is either Thursday or Friday after lunch.

The actual baking begins Oct. 8 after the kitchen is cleared from the noon day meal. We need lots of help to complete this project.

People are needed to mix the dough in the mornings, and then we need a person to fill the guns.

Strong people are needed to shoot the cookies on the baking sheets and others to arrange the cookies on the sheets for baking.

Following the baking, someone is needed to clean the pans and make them ready to start the process over again.

This is actually a lot of fun and a great time to visit with friends, neighbors, and even family.

For more information, or to make reservations, call 620-983-2226.
