Senior Scribbles

Hillsboro Senior Center

Hearing-aid checks are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, and bingo will be played after the noon meal.

During the Arts & Crafts Fair Sept. 19, the center is having its fundraising event starting at 11 a.m. We are serving Hillsboro sausage, verenika and pie for those who might not want cherry moos. The price went up this year to $9 because of the cost of verenika and other foods.

Even so, it?s still a great meal for the price. All proceeds will go toward needed improvements and operating the facility.

The north side of the parking lot will be blocked off. Those planning to attend are asked to come in through the alley to park. Carry-out is available, too.

In addition to the fund?raising event, we hope everyone will support the center. We have games and fellowship every Monday and bingo every Wednesday, both after the noon meal.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. If you can help one or more days a month, we can use the help. As an added bonus, volunteers get their meal free the day they work.

The center is also in need of a head cook to fill in when our main cook needs time off and substitute Meals on Wheels drivers.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

For more information on these things, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St. between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

We had a surprise party for Irene Richmond?s 99th birthday on the ninth day of the ninth month. To celebrate this milestone, we had cupcakes, ice cream and a birthday card shower for her.

We also sang a number of ?old? songs as requested and led by Sue Clough and accompanied by Keith Allison.

Mary Rogers shared Irene?s birthday Sept. 4, bringing treats.

We are pleased that one of our volunteers, Jackie Hett and her family, will be grand marshals at the Old Settlers Day parade.

Join us Sept. 23. The program after lunch will be given by a representative of Hatfield Mobility.

For more information or to make a reservation, call 620-382-2942, or stop by 309 S. Third St., Marion.

On Sept. 22 we will have the business meeting after the midday lunch.

Brunch, which is a big attraction, is at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 25. We will again feature biscuits with sausage gravy, coffee cake or cinnamon roll, and fruit. Reser?vations are needed.

The SCMC annual meeting is at the Marion Senior Center Oct. 15. We hope everyone will make plans to attend.

Peppernut season is right around the corner. We begin baking Oct. 8 after the kitchen is cleared from lunch. We will bake each Monday and Thursday until Thanksgiving.

We need a lot of volunteers and, for those available, join us as often as possible. We appreciate all our volunteers and encourage more people to do so. It is good for the volunteer and the organization being helped.

For more information, or to make reservations, call 620-983-2226.
