HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER

October is almost here, but with the warmer temperatures, it doesn?t feel like fall is in the air.

Bingo is planned after the noon meal Wednesday, Sept. 30, and Friday, Oct. 2, Alisa Schmidt, a physician at Hillsboro Community Hospital, will have the program.

Games and fellowship are after the noon meal every Monday, and we play bingo every Wednesday.

Chair massages are Oct. 7, and if interested, please call the center to sign up.

Footcare is every third Tuesday of the month, and Haris Zafar of Wichita, who specializes in audiology and hearing aid services, is here at 11:15 a.m. every third Wednesday of the month.

For more information about these services, call the center.

Our jam session is the second Thursday of every month. Mark your calenders and, hope to see you at one or more of these activities.

We want to again thank Barkman Honey for helping to keep our center thriving by offering $2 for every $1 raised during the next 12 months.

We are so grateful for their help, and we hope more people can assist us, too.

Should you see Brent Barkman and Joyce Barkman, please thank them for their support.

Thanks to everyone who helps the center either through donations, having lunch with us or participating in events.

While we do get money for meals, all the proceeds from that goes to North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging.

Any other donations above the suggested meal price will stay at the senior center, but that is not enough for our board to meet the monthly expenses to keep the facility going.

With your help, we plan to be here for many more years.

For more information on these things, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St. between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

PEABODY senior center

Peppernut season is here and we are cleaning the back room and washing all the equipment needed for baking those delicious little cookies.

For those available, contact the center to see what day it will begin, which is either Thursday or Friday after lunch.

The actual baking begins Oct. 8 after the kitchen is cleared from the noon day meal.

We need lots of positions filled to complete this project.

People are needed to mix the dough in the mornings, and then we need a person to fill the guns.

Strong people are needed to shoot the cookies on the baking sheets and others to arrange the cookies on the sheets for baking.

Following the baking, someone is needed to clean the pans and make them ready to start the process over again.

This is actually a lot of fun and a great time to visit with friends, neighbors, and even family.

Come join us. We need lots of help and we think others will enjoy the time. We bake each Monday and Thursday until just before Thanksgiving.

The menus for October are available. We invite everyone to visit us at 106 N. Walnut and pick up a copy.

Decide which days you would like to join us and then make your reservations at 620-983-2226.

We look forward to seeing you.

For more information, or to make reservations, call 620-983-2226.
