Bingo is Wednesday, Jan. 9, after the noon meal.
Haris Zafar will be at the center at 11 a.m. Jan. 16 for hearing aid checks and Mary McFadden will be here Jan. 17 to offer foot care. If interested, call the center for an appointment.
A business meeting is scheduled during the noon meal, also Wednesday, Jan. 16.
The center is closed Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and, remember those who help get their meal free that day. Anyone willing to volunteer can commit one time or several times.
We are inviting others to join us for a meal and fellowship. Meal costs went up Jan. 2 with suggested lunch prices of $3.15 for people 60 and older. For those age 59 and younger, the amount is $5.
The decision to raise lunch costs was made by North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging. If interested in calling them, the toll-free number is: 800-432-2703.
We are also looking for program ideas and/or people to present them.
The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.
For more information about volunteering or other center activities, call 620-947-2304.

Marion senior center
We have a wish or two for the new year.
We would like some more volunteers in the dining room, delivering of meals and Lanell Hett could use more drivers to take people to appointments.
Our volunteer newsletter crew worked diligently Dec. 17, directed by Lanell Hett and Gayla Ratzlaff, Marion County Department on Aging coordinator. The crew consisted of Wanda Hamm, MaryAnn Timm, Norma Woerz, Evelyn Jewett, Fred Puttroff, Elsie Reiswig, Sue Clough, Al and Gloria Ash, Nora Richter and Jane Makovec.
We hosted the Marion Senior Citizens county board Dec. 21. It’s always good to see friends from across the county.
Starting Jan. 2, the suggested meal contribution for people age 60 and older goes up to $3.15 and for those under 60, the cost will be $5.
We had “Show ‘n Tell” the day after Christmas. Several people did just that to include Marilyn Geis, Sue Clough, Shirley Bowers, Rhonda Brenzikofer and Jean Pierce.
Shirley Bowers gave everyone a homemade cookie.
Elvis is coming again on his birthday, Jan. 8. Come join us at 6:30 p.m. for music. Wear your poodle skirt and saddle oxfords and come to dance.
Robin Dicks of Shepherd’s Shed will be here Jan. 9 to give a presentation.
For more information on volunteering, renting the senior center building, or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.

Peabody senior center
The holidays are behind us and the new year looms ahead.
How is everyone filling the blank pages of the new year? Will the pages be full of service to others, kindness and empathy or will the new year start out with peace, rest and reservation?
Either way I wish everyone wisdom as they fill the empty pages of their personal new year.
We will have our monthly birthday dinner Jan. 10. This will be Kim’s delicious oven-fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and all the trimmings.
Peabody Care Center will provide free blood pressure checks and Gayla Ratzlaff, coordinator, Marion County Department on Aging, will talk to us about “hoarding.” Make reservations early so not to miss out.
Our local board meeting is at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting and stay abreast of what is being planned at our center. For those who might want to provide input, come sit in on the meeting.
We will be closed Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will be able to provide frozen meals and deliver them the week prior to the holiday.
The holidays are over and Jan. 24, we will hope to see a good turnout for Bingo.
Last month we only had one person stay, so let’s not repeat that. It’s hard to play Bingo with one person. We already have the prizes. Please plan to stay after lunch and have fun with friends and neighbors.
Call us at 620-983-2226 to reserve a meal. If it is after hours, leave a message on the recorder and we will add anyone who calls to the list. Meals are a suggested contribution of $3.15 for those age 60 and over. All others are welcome to eat for $5.
We still have peppernuts left. If interested, stop by 106 S. Walnut and buy a bag or two.
The cost per bag is $8. Peppernuts make a delicious snack anytime and can be frozen to enjoy later. Looking forward to seeing others for lunch and other events.
