hillsboro senior center

January menus are ready and can be picked up at the center.

Here’s hoping everyone had a Happy New Year and will consider taking time to come and visit the senior center.

Starting Jan. 2 will be playing dominoes or cards following the noon meal. If everyone likes the idea, we could play other days, too.

Elvis Presley’s birthday is Tuesday, Jan. 8, and the center is planning a celebration.

Those who would like to play their old records, tapes or CDs are welcome to bring them.

Other memorabilia people would like to share about Elvis would also be appreciated.

Bingo is Wednesday, Jan. 9, after the noon meal.

Mary McFadden is offering foot care on Jan. 17. If interested, call for an appointment.

Haris Zafar will be at the center Jan. 16 for hearing aid checks.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and, remember those who help get their meal free that day.

Anyone willing to help can commit one time or several times.

Suggested lunch prices for people 60 and older are $3.15.

For those age 59 and younger, the amount is $5.

The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

For more information about volunteering or other center activities, call 620-947-2304.

Marion senior center

We have a wish or two for the new year 2013.

We would like some more volunteers in the dining room, delivering of meals and Lanell Hett could use more drivers to take people to appointments.

Our volunteer newsletter crew worked diligently on Dec. 17, directed by Lanell Hett and Gayla Ratzlaff, Marion County Department on Aging coordinator. The crew consisted of Wanda Hamm, MaryAnn Timm, Norma Woerz, Evelyn Jewett, Fred Puttroff, Elsie Reiswig, Sue Clough, Al and Gloria Ash, Nora Richter and Jane Makovec.

We hosted the Marion Senior Citizens county board Dec. 21. It’s always good to see friends from across the county.

Starting Jan. 2, the suggested meal contribution for people ages 60 and older goes up to $3.15 and for those under 60, the cost will be $5.

We had “Show ‘n Tell” the day after Christmas. Several people did just that to include Marilyn Geis, Sue Clough, Shirley Bowers, Rhonda Brenzikofer and Jean Pierce.

Shirley Bowers gave everyone a homemade cookie.

Elvis is coming again on his birthday, Jan. 8. Come join us at 6:30 p.m. for music. Wear your poodle skirt and saddle oxfords and come to dance.

Robin Dicks of the Shepherd’s Shed will be here Jan. 9 to give a presentation.

For more information on volunteering, renting the senior center building, or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.
