As we come to the end of October, we will have a Halloween party Oct. 31, so come dressed up and you will get a treat and a prize.

On Nov. 1 we will be having souring stone artistry from Marion to show the arrowheads he makes.

On Saturday, Nov. 3, we will have our community breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will serve waffles and Hillsboro sausage plus coffee, juice and milk for $6. We hope you can come and support the center.

On Monday, Nov. 5, Eric Driggers will talk about Part D Medicare.

Our Thanksgiving meal will be held Friday, Nov. 16, at noon. There will be no extra charge for the meal. Please sign up by Wednesday, Nov. 7, as we need to order food that day. We hope you can join us for the meal and great fellowship.

We still need volunteers and Meals on Wheels sub drivers. Please call the center for more information.

Many of us attended the Senior Citizens of Marion County annual meeting in Hillsboro Oct. 18. The highlight was honoring nominated veterans of World War II and the Korean War.

Jackie Hett reported a telephone scam targeted at senior citizens. There are many scams, by mail or by telephone, so be alert.

We celebrated two birthdays Oct. 23: Elsie Reiswig and Marlene Bernhardt. Each brought treats for us.

Our program Oct. 24 was given by Jill Moore from Schowalter Villa. She was accompanied by Diane Yoder. “Sharpening the Mind” was the topic. We ended up playing the game using foam sticks and a balloon.

Come join us Nov. 7. The program will be given by Jeff Reynolds, occupational therapist at St. Luke Hospital.

Peabody senior center

Peppernuts are selling like “hot cakes.” Come by and pick up a bag or more at the center. We are still baking on Mondays and Thursdays, and then other volunteers come in to bag them for sales. A lot of people are busy with this project, but it is rewarding.

November menus are out and can be picked up between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

We will be participating in the “Trunk and Treat” this year for Halloween, sponsored by Main Street.

The event is a fun, safe way for children to spend the evening. Candy will be distributed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or until we run out. Anyone wanting to donate a bag or two of candy would be appreciated.

Don’t forget to vote for the candidates of your choice Nov. 6. The Senior Center will be the place to cast your ballot.

The November birthday dinner is Nov. 7 and Nov. 9 we will honor our local veterans. We hope others will make plans to join us for these two events.

We will be closed for Thanksgiving and the Friday after, but we will provide frozen meals for those days to anyone who desires meals. Please give us a call and let us know how many meals you would like us to deliver.

Meals have a suggested price of $2.75 for those 60 and over and $4.50 for those 59 and under.

To make a meal reservation, volunteer or to ask a question, call 620-983-2226 or stop by 106 Walnut.

Stay warm and stay happy.
