Shauna Kern, a physician at Hillsboro Clinic and Hillsboro Community Hospital, was scheduled to make a presentation Sept. 11.
Other activities this week include Bingo on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and Thursday, Sept. 13, we will have Peabody Care Center here to talk.
The Arts & Crafts Fair is Saturday, Sept. 15, and starting at 11 a.m. we will be serving verenika, ham, gravy and cherry moos for $8. The meal is a fundraiser for the center. Parking will be available in the center’s lot with access from the alley to the north side of the building. We hope everyone can join us for a good meal while helping the center at the same time.
Haris Zafar will be here at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 for hearing aid checks. We are still needing volunteers for the center and, if interested, please call for more information. Anybody who helps will get their meal free the day they volunteer.
We also want to express our gratitude to all the volunteers because without them, we couldn’t do what we do.
For more information on volunteering or center activities, call 620-947-2304. The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

We have a new batch of tea towels stamped with designs by Mary Hett and ready to embroider for the Craft Corner. Come by and pick up a set to work on.
Head cook Kathy West was in Salina Aug. 30, along with other area cooks, to learn how to order our food supplies on the computer.
We still have a few seats on the van going to Wichita’s Crown Uptown Sept. 20 to see “Sweeney Todd.” According to information about the show, it is a musical which tells the story of nefarious and vengeful 19th-century barber Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, who teams up with a pie maker, Mrs. Lovett, and opens a barbershop to serve up a hefty “slice” of havoc on the city of London.

What a wonderful first week of September with rain and cooler temperatures.
We can still use more of both, but we are grateful for what we received.
Peabody Senior Center is moving a step forward into the electronic age effective this week also. We now have internet service available at our center so we will be able to write our news stories more timely, transmit our monthly reports to Manhattan, and now Kim Nellans, head cook, will be able to order the food for her meals on line also.
We are thankful for the remainder of memorials from Dorothy Whistler for this gift of technology.
Our monthly board meeting is Sept. 17. This meeting is open to anyone who would like to have more information on Peabody’s senior center or would like to become more involved.
The Senior Fair in Salina is Sept. 18 with a wealth of knowledge available. Everyone that can make it, is encouraged to attend. A bus will be going from Marion for those who want to go. For more information about the trip, please call the senior center at 620-983-2226 or Marion County Department on Aging at 620-382-3580.
Our business meeting is Sept. 19 and those attending can learn about future events in Peabody.
It's almost time to bake peppernuts again. We will start baking on Mondays and Thursdays in October and continue through the week before Thanksgiving.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need the help of everyone that is available. More information on exact dates will follow.
We are also going to participate in the Peabody Historical Society's celebration at the city park on Sept. 29. A drawing is planned for a Kindle ebook. Tickets for the drawing are $1 and are on sale at the senior center, 106 N. Walnut. This is a wonderful gift for yourself or someone else.
We look forward to seeing you.
