This week, we have several activities planned ranging from lunches and games to music and more.

For anybody who would like to stay after lunch Aug. 8, we plan on playing Bingo.

National Rice Pudding Day is Thursday, Aug. 9, and in honor of the day, we will have rice pudding.

Anyone with vinyl records is encouraged to bring them Friday, Aug. 10. We will have a record player available and those wanting to share their music on vinyl are invited to participate in the fun. It will be enjoyable hearing old songs.

Mike Flavin of Newton will be our guest Monday, Aug. 13. He will provide musical entertainment, which will be an added bonus to an already great lunch.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Everyone who helps gets a free lunch that day. Volunteers must be 16 or older. A big thank you goes out to all our volunteers. We sincerely couldn’t do it without you.

Our ice cream social is at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25. In addition to ice cream, Bob Delk and the Boys will be entertaining us.

We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a sweet treat and good entertainment. All proceeds will benefit the senior center.

For more information on volunteering or center activities, call 620-947-2304. The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

We finally celebrated the National Day of the Cowboy. There were cowboy hats, cowboy boots and bandannas worn by those in attendance.

Phyllis Soyez brought her collectable cowgirl doll to show.

We had cowboy poetry read by Sue Clough, Estelle McCarty, Connie Fisher, Marilyn Cox, Fred Puttroff, Neysa Eberhard and Jerry Kline. We then sang, “Home on the Range.”

In addition, we celebrated Jerry and Norma Kline’s 50th wedding anniversary July 27 with cake provided by them.

The North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging has contracted with different food providers and we will have new menus beginning in October.

Kristi Lackey of Hillsboro, who wrote, “Stress Less and Soar More,” provided the program Aug. 1.

We had a big free food giveaway that day with a big supply donated by the Kansas Food Bank of Wichita.

We would like to thank Gene Winkler, who spearheads these giveaways.

Come join us Aug. 15, Senior Center Day, when Anne Phyfer, Marion’s newest medical doctor, will be speaking.

For more information on renting the building, programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful break from the hot weather. Come on down and share some good fellowship and good food with other friends at the senior center.

Our birthday dinner for is Wednesday, Aug. 8, and we will have Wilma Schmidt with us sharing some of her quilting artwork. We hope everyone made a reservation.

School starts this month so be sure and keep an eye out for the little ones. The students will also be excited so they may not be paying as close attention, so be sure to watch closely.

We are always looking for new people to eat with us at the senior center and also for volunteers.

Call us to make a reservation the day before planning to eat.

For those who have extra time, consider volunteering. We always have something someone can do and the help is appreciated regardless of the contribution.

Our kitchen is being remodeled by one volunteer, and another is washing down the tables after lunch.

To make a meal reservation, volunteer or to ask a question, call 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N. Walnut St.
