We will be closed July 4 for the holiday. Anyone who would like a frozen meal for that day is encouraged to call.

Bingo is set for Wednesday and Mary McFadden will be doing footcare July 17. Those who want to see her are asked to make an appointment by calling the center.

Our head cook, Janis Wright, will have a needle weaving class at 1:30 p.m. If someone is interested, call to sign up.

We need volunteers for July and ask if someone can help, to call or stop by the center. All volunteers receive a free meal the day they work. We want to thank everyone who helps support our center.

I will be gone a few days next week for surgery and Ruby Hilt will fill in for me until I can come back to work. Thank you all for your prayers.

July menus and calendars are available.

For more information on volunteering, programs, appointments or other center activities, call 620-947-2304. To make meal reservations, please call no later than 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

We observed Flag Day June 14 with some questions and answers about the flag. Thanks to Harold Conyers for his leaflet with much information. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and sang the national anthem. Shirley Bowers continued to play patriotic music on the piano as we got our lunch.

Mary Hett made a couple cakes as requested by Bob Peterson just so we could have cake on Flag Day.

Clayton Hamm and Shirley Moore went to Council Grove to get government commodities. They were speedily sacked up to be distributed June 15.

We sang, “Happy Birthday,” to Caleb Abbott June 15.

We also said farewell to Rebekah Neal, who has been volunteering with her clients several days a week, but has a new job in Wichita.

We then welcomed Christy Martinez June 19. She is taking Rebekah’s place with her clients.

Senior Center Day was June 20 with Sue Clough conducting the business meeting.

Virginia Dowing distributed information about insurance choices. The program was given by Howard Collett telling about the trip he and wife, Beth, took to West Point to see grandson, Hank Collett, graduate.

Howard’s sister, Anita Sly from Salina, and Marjory Talbott of Halstead came for the program. His sister, Shirley Bowers, is a regular at the senior center.

There is a special item for sale at our Craft Corner. A 331?3 record, “Praise God,” by the singspirationals: Helen and Wilbur Leppke, Betty and Eugene Just and Bob Delk. Buy it for the memories.

We will be closed July 4.

For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

Wii bowling has really dwindled off at the center and we would like to revive it. Please join us June 27 for a Wii bowling tournament right after lunch. The last one had to be canceled because we had no bowlers, so please come out and enjoy the company and get some exercise. We look forward to seeing you there.

Some people have their July 4 picnics in the park, but we have decided to have ours in air-conditioning at the center July 3.

Come join us for hamburgers or hotdogs, macaroni salad and baked beans and lots of friends to visit with.

We will be closed July 4.

Our birthday dinner is scheduled July 10 with music by Mike Flavin of Newton. He is very enjoyable and we encourage everyone to make plans to attend.

We look forward to having you there. Call 24 hours in advance so we can set another place at the table.

To make a meal reservation, volunteer or to ask a question, call 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N. Walnut St.
