HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER
A big “thank you” goes out to everyone who attended last week’s Farmers’ Market and stayed for the meal, which was sponsored by the senior center. We served about 175 people, with all proceeds going to help with daily expenses.
We also want to thank the board members for all their support and hard work to keep our center going.
The center also wants to express its appreciation to all the families whose loved ones have designated the senior center for memorial gifts.
This week, we will be playing Bingo June 13. We also are hoping people will dress in red, white and blue for Flag Day June 14.
Father’s Day is June 17 and everyone is invited to bring a picture of their dad Friday, June 15.
Jeanne Rziha with the Wellness Center at Greenhaw Pharmacy was scheduled to be at the center at 12:30 p.m. June 19, but because she was going to be out of town, the date was changed to June 28.
Remember that everyone is welcome to join us for a meal at the center, no matter what their age. Meals are $2.75 for 60 and older and $4.50 for people 59 and younger. It’s a good price for a lunch meal with fellowship included.
For more information on volunteering, programs, appointments or other center activities, call 620-947-2304. To make meal reservations, please call no later than 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Six of us took the small van to Abilene June 5 to the “Elvis at 21” photography exhibit at the Eisenhower Museum. We also went through the Eisenhower home and finally to Russell Stover’s Candy Store.
Those on the trip included Delberta Brandt, Noreen Weems, Luba Brinkman, Marlene Anduss, Janet Bryant and driver, Shirley Moore.
Gerry Henderson sang for us June 6, accompanied on the piano by Keith Allison. This was his first time performing for us, but definitely not the last.
Come join us for Senior Center Day June 20. There will be a program after lunch.
For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER
Another busy week is underway at the Peabody Senior Center.
We will have our monthly business meeting Wednesday and will also have an exciting presentation by Ted Hayes of the Kansas Sports Museum.
Flag Day is Thursday, June 14, which is an honor to have a day set aside to recognize Old Glory.
Bingo will follow the meal Thursday and participants are asked to bring a white elephant item for the prize basket.
The Marion County board meeting is June 15. If you are interested in attending, contact Judy Mellot or Nellie Schmidt to make arrangements for the trip.
A biscuit and gravy breakfast is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. June 16 at the center.
In addition to biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, fruit and coffee will be served. The breakfast was originally scheduled to help with the ongoing costs of the senior center, however, since the planning stages, we have experienced major plumbing problems. Hopefully this fundraiser will help defray some of these new expenses.
The cost of breakfast will be by donation. No reservations are necessary and all ages are welcome.
Father’s Day is June 17, making the breakfast meal a treat for dad.
We are going to have “Summer Hat Day” June 18. Everyone is asked to don their favorite summer hat whether it be silly, stylish or outrageous.
We are once again having Show and Tell June 21. The last time we had this it was impressive with the items that were brought in. Please bring something to share that day. Again, anything goes as long as you can carry it in.
We are always looking for volunteers at the center. For those who have time available, please let us help you fill it.
For those planning to eat lunch with us, remember to give 24 hours notice.
To make a meal reservation, volunteer or to ask a question, call 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N. Walnut St. Stay cool.
