hillsboro senior center

We welcome our new board members, Ruby Hilt and Willie Ensz, who started in 2012.

We also want to thank Ken Koslowsky for volunteering his services to the senior center for our tax papers and preparing our tax statements.

Ken does this all as a donation to the center at no charge, and we are all grateful to him.

We are looking for people to volunteer to do a concert here at the center July 4. Please let us know if you can help by calling or stopping by.

This week we are having Bingo Wednesday, Jan. 11 after lunch. Show ‘n Tell is Friday, Jan. 13 and we ask that people bring something to share.

The center is closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but if you need a frozen dinner, let us know ahead of time.

Volunteers are needed to help from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For those who help, a free lunch is available for the day they lend a hand.

Another need at the center is an on-call dishwasher on the days our regular dishwasher needs off or is sick. If interested, call for more information.

We want to thank everyone who has helped support the center. It’s a great place for fellowship and meals.

Meals are $2.75 for those 60 and older and $4.50 for ages 59 and younger.

For more information on volunteering, appointments or other center activities, call 620-947-2304 before 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

We have Elvis music playing as I write this, preparing for our big celebration Jan. 6. It’s one of our most fun times.

Walter Norman gave me information about the bar codes on items we purchase and how one can discover the country of origin. For example, if the first three digits are 00-009, the source is Canada or the United States. Check it out.

Also check us out on Facebook, which Norma Kline set up for us.

We also have a new DVD player put in use by Sue Clough.

Jon Thole celebrated his birthday with us Jan. 4.

We welcome our new head cook Andrea Schadel, who just moved to Marion. Thanks to Barb Bitner who filled in for us during the search for a cook.

We are closed Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

Come join us Jan. 18, Senior Center Day. There will be a program after lunch.

For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

Peabody senior center

Another week is in full swing at the Peabody Senior Center and, as always, we are anxious for you to come down and experience the friendship that we all share with each other.

We are always attempting to plan something to keep everyone interested in our center and your ideas to increase activities will be considered.

We will have Bingo after dinner Thursday, Jan. 12, so bring a couple candy bars or other sweet treats and play a card or two with us. Everyone is always a winner, making for smiles and treats.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day Jan. 16, we will be closed. If you would like a freezer meal for that day, we still have some available— just give us a call by Jan. 12 so we can get it out with the Friday deliveries.

Our monthly board meeting is at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 17, followed by the business meeting after our meal at 11:45 a.m. Please come have lunch and learn what our board has on its agenda.

If you have never had lunch with us, call and make a reservation. If you haven't been here for awhile, then come back and see what you have been missing.

We look forward to hearing from you or seeing you in the near future.

Remember to call in your reservations to the Senior Center the day before you plan to eat. The number is 620-983-2226, and if you call after hours the recorder will pick up for your reservation.

Meals are served at 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday at the suggested donation of $2.75 for those 60 and above and $4.50 for 59 and below. Watch for the school closing during snowy weather to find out if the center will be closed. We follow their lead on closings.
