We kept our average congregate meals at 50 during the month of November.

Clayton Hamm celebrated his birthday Nov. 2. Their children, Dennis Hamm and Shirley Riffel, joined us for lunch.

Phyllis Soyez continues to bring in porcelain dolls to sell at the Craft Corner. Come in and see them.

Anita Hancock played Christmas piano music as we ate Dec. 7. She played her lap harp and sang.

Come join us on Senior Center Day, Dec. 21. The Marion High School singers will perform, directed by Dave Clark.

Peabody senior center

Peabody is busy with everyone readying themselves for Christmas. The lights are up, the parties are set and the services are ready to attend.

We hope no one is too stressed, but if so, make a reservation to eat a wonderful meal at the senior center while relaxing and visiting with friends.

Our monthly bowling tournament is Thursday, Dec. 15. We had power surges in October that “fried” our Wii and we were not able to have a tournament in October or November.

After exhausting every means we knew to revive the system, nothing corrected the problem.

Because the Wii is enjoyed by so many people at the center, we decided to purchase a new one with one lady paying half and the center paying the other half.

The checks were written out and we had a volunteer that was going to go and make our purchase.

Remarkably, the night before all this transpired all electricity was out in Peabody from 11 p.m. to 3:45 a.m. The morning after this outage, and the morning our volunteer was going to go and make our purchase, Gayla Ratzlaff, director of the Marion County Department on Aging, was at our center. Since we had won it from the Marion County Area Agency on Aging, we were boxing it up to return it, but during that process, the unit had come on and was working. We declared this our miracle for Christmas.

This might prove to be a really exciting tournament with everyone making use of the Wii since it’s working and they had been without it so long.

On Dec. 20 is a covered dish meal with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy provided. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Vada Ann McPheeters will play Christmas music on the piano. Our Christmas brunch is Dec. 22.

Make your reservations and come start the Christmas holiday off with us.

January menus should be out later this week. We will be closed Dec. 23 and 26, but we have freezer meals available for your convenience. If you would like one, call prior to Dec. 16.

For more information, call 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N. Walnut.
