hillsboro senior center
Activities this week include bingo Dec. 7 after lunch and “Wear Your Christmas Hat” to the center Dec. 9. Hope to see lots of hats.
Cheri Barton, chief executive officer of Hillsboro Community Hospital, will talk at the center Dec. 13 and the Christmas Gala fundraising event is Dec. 17 at the Milk & Honey Bed and Breakfast. The cost is $100 for meal and entertainment. Everyone had a great time last year.
Meal tickets are available and can make great gifts.
The center opens at 8 a.m. and everyone is invited to enjoy a cup of coffee, sit, chat or play games, cards and more. Doors stay open until 4 p.m.
We are also wanting to update our television to better see DVDs and allow more people to watch. If anyone has a flat screen television they would like to donate, it would be appreciated. A newer set could also mean watching more movies.
If anyone has ideas for programs, please let us know.
Volunteers are still needed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Anyone volunteering will also receive a free meal the day they help.
For more information on volunteering, appointments or other center activities, call 620-947-2304 before 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

AGAPE senior center
Well here we are diving into December. We got into the Christmas spirit here at AGAPE Friday by decorating the center. Thanks to all of you that came to participate.
At last week’s pool tournament everybody won a little, or at least that’s what they told me.
Thank you, Lois Janzen, for keeping score.
This month we will celebrate December birthdays Dec. 13.
Tabor lunch bunch will be here Dec. 20 and we will have our Christmas Dinner and party from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 21. Those planning to attend are asked to call by Dec. 16 for dinner.
Remember we will be closed Dec. 26 in observance of Christmas, but if you will need frozen meals for that day please call me at 620-367-2275 and those will be delivered Dec. 23.
Entertainment for the party is undetermined at this time, but it is in the works and I will know by next week. Wonder who it could be? For those who would like to dine with us, remember to call before noon the business day before.
For more information or to make reservations, call 620-367-2275.

Marion senior center
Time to get into the Christmas spirit. We have a good supply of Christmas cards for sale, individually at 50 cents, and more musical cards for various occasions.
We had a presentation on foster grandparenting Nov. 30 given by Linda Chase from Winfield. Our two Marion foster grandmothers who work in the local school told of their experiences and the rewards of the program. Marie Hoffner and Madonna Schafers are the two foster grandparents.
We welcomed Marilyn Stegall as a dining room volunteer.
Come join us Dec. 14. After lunch we will have a Christmas carol sing-along led by Sue Clough with Shirley Bowers as pianist.
We also will be hosting the Marion County Senior Citizens monthly board meeting Dec. 16.
For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

Peabody senior center
The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is in full swing.
We also have some dates and activities to put on the calendar to remember.
Bingo at the senior center is Dec. 8 right after lunch. Although it is not required, some of us will bring either a Christmas treat or a candy bar to put in the prize basket. We all seem to enjoy the time we spend playing games together.
We have a very busy day planned Dec. 14 starting with lunch at 11:45 a.m., but then at 5 p.m. we will have a make-up meal of chili and cinnamon rolls by reservation. Then at 6 p.m., we will have our annual Light Tour for the local nursing homes.
The buses will load at 6 p.m. both at the senior center for those that choose to eat with us and then at the Peabody Care Center and Westview Manor.
The tour will include viewing the lights of Peabody and then returning to the center for cookies, crackers, hot chocolate and coffee.
We will also have a drawing for the quilted wall hanging on display at the center. Tickets are on sale for $1 each or six for $5. Proceeds go for expenses at the senior center. It is always a very fun evening and the people always enjoy the lights and refreshments. Remember to make your reservations early if you want to eat the evening meal with us.
On Dec. 20, we will have a covered dish dinner and our monthly business meeting.
The menu includes turkey, dressing and potatoes and gravy which will be provided by the senior center board. We ask that others bring either side dishes or desserts.
We are also asking everyone to make reservations early for the holiday brunch at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 22. Kim Nellons, our wonderful cook, will once again fix a breakfast casserole, cinnamon rolls or blueberry coffee cake, fruit and coffee.
The center is closed Dec. 23 and Dec. 26, but we will have freezer meals available for the holidays.
For those wanting one to four meals, call by Dec. 16 so they can be delivered before we close for the holidays.
We always are looking for volunteers to help us in the kitchen or delivering meals. This is a rewarding way to serve people in our community. If you would like additional information, call 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N Walnut.
Peppernut sales are still going strong, but we anticipate our supply being depleted by Christmas, so come by and pick up a bag before they are gone.
