hillsboro senior center

October is here and I am pleased to announce that I have been at the Hillsboro Senior Center for two years.

As the director, I enjoy my job and getting to know all who come for meals and programs. Your support is appreciated.

Earlier this week, Ann Shepherd was here during a sing-along program.

Blood pressure checks, provided by the new Hillsboro Clinic, will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 6.

The cost of meals for those age 59 and under is $4.50 and those over age 60 is $2.75. For those unable to eat lunch with us, meals are available for pickup.

Volunteers from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. are needed to help set tables and clean up after lunch. If interested, call.

October calendars are here. For those who need their calendar mailed, let us know.

For more information, call 620-947-2304 before 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

Haven’t we had glorious weather? We deserve it, of course, after the extreme summer heat.

Flu shots will be given here from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 31. Marion County Health Office is providing this service.

Jim Osborn celebrated his birthday Sept. 22 treating us to ice cream cups.

Ron Kieferle played his accordion for us Sept. 26 and Shirley Bowers accompanied him on the piano toward the end of his program.

Shirley was also the first prize winner in the Sesquicentennial apron contest.

An efficient newsletter assembly crew came together on Sept. 27: Jane Makovec, Evelyn Jewett, Shirley Moore, Elsie Reiswig, Mary Ann Timm, Norah Richter, Norma Woerz, Sue Clough, Al and Gloria Ash, Lanell Hett and Gayla Ratzlaff guided the process.

Norine Holtsclaw brought us cookies for her birthday Sept. 287.

Gayla Ratzlaff, director of the Marion County Department on Aging, gave a program on her mountain climbing experience in Colorado this summer.

Come join us for lunch Oct. 12. Ralph and Phyllis Kreutziger will about volunteering with the American Red Cross, recently working in Massachusetts following the hurricane.

For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.
