August is here and schools will begin soon.

Our ice cream social is at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25. In addition to ice cream, Bob Delk and the Boys will entertain us.

We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a sweet treat and good entertainment. All proceeds will benefit the senior center.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Everyone who helps gets a free lunch that day. Volunteers must be 16 or older. A big thank you goes out to all our volunteers. We sincerely couldn’t do it without you.

For more information on volunteering or center activities, call 620-947-2304. The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Senior Scribbles (Aug. 8, 2012)

This week, we have several activities planned ranging from lunches and games to music and more.

For anybody who would like to stay after lunch Aug. 8, we plan on playing Bingo.

National Rice Pudding Day is Thursday, Aug. 9, and in honor of the day, we will have rice pudding.

Anyone with vinyl records is encouraged to bring them Friday, Aug. 10. We will have a record player available and those wanting to share their music on vinyl are invited to participate in the fun. It will be enjoyable hearing old songs.

Mike Flavin of Newton will be our guest Monday, Aug. 13. He will provide musical entertainment, which will be an added bonus to an already great lunch.

July is behind us and we welcome August and back to school.

“Show and Tell” is Friday, Aug. 3. Everyone planning to attend is encouraged to bring school day memories to share.

We will have music from Ron and Connie Shipman of Marion Aug. 7. Hope to see others there for the program and a meal with us.

The center would like to thank everyone who donated cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and squash. We have enjoyed eating all these vegetables.

Anyone who has a wireless microphone they are willing to donate or sell, please give me a call. We are looking for this item and it would be appreciated.

August menus are available for pickup or if someone needs it mailed, let us know.

Senior Scribbles (July 25, 2012)

Marion County Fair days begin July 25 and we hope others can come and join us for a meal, fellowship and Bingo.

Also, don’t forget to attend the Marion County Fair parade Wednesday, but be sure to bring plenty of water because it is expected to be another hot day.

Show and Tell is July 27 and we encourage everyone to bring fair memories.

The center’s monthly birthday dinner is July 30 and we hope to see you there.

We are always interested in where people have been and if someone has taken a trip and would like to share their pictures and talk about their trip. Let us know.

More volunteers are still needed at the center and anyone who helps will get their lunch free on the day they work.
