The senior center would like to thank the family of Elmer Friesen for the memorial money they gave to the center.

We would also like to extend a big thank you to our Tabor College students who helped with many projects. It helps our center a lot.

As we close out August and start September, we hope for cooler temperatures.

Our next board meeting is Thursday, Sept. 1. On Sept. 2 we have Show and Tell and everyone is invited to bring something to share. We will be closed Sept. 5 for Labor Day.

“Armchair Travel,” will be featured Sept. 7 with Gayla Ratzlaff, director of the Marion County Department on Aging. We are looking for other people to do a program on trips they have taken for our “Armchair Travel”...

We would like to thank the city of Hillsboro for advertising our recent fundraiser on the big sign, the Hillsboro Free Press for the large ad and Julie Klenda for the farm eggs she donated to the center for our community breakfast fundraiser.

About 180 people were served at the breakfast.

As we get close to September, we would like to invite everyone, regardless of age, to come in for games, gab and goodies from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will have coffee and sweet treats every day.

Some activities coming up include the monthly birthday dinner Aug. 29 and “Name that Tune” at 12:30 p.m.

Bingo is planned Aug. 31.

This week at the center, Haris Zafar will be here at 11 a.m. Aug. 17 to do hearing aid checks.

In addition, Janet Herzet with Marion County Home Health and Medical Alert Systems will offer a program at 12:30 p.m.

A community breakfast is planned from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 20. The menu will include biscuits and gravy, ham, pancakes, coffee, juice and milk. The cost is $6.

Anyone new to the community is invited to join others at the center for a good meal at a good price.

The cost of meals for those ages 59 and under is $4.50 and those over age 60 is $2.75.

We would also like to thank our kitchen staff, Meals on Wheels drivers and other volunteers for all their hard work.

We want to thank everyone who came to our ice cream social and supported the senior center.

We will be having a community breakfast fundraising event from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 20. The center will serve biscuits and gravy, pancakes and ham, juice, coffee and milk. We hope you can join us.

Activities this week include a “show and tell” Aug. 12. Everyone is asked to bring anything to share. We will also have music during lunch on Wednesday and Friday provided by Esther Funk.

Volunteers are still needed for September. If you can help, call the center.

Everyone is encouraged to stop by and enjoy a meal at the center.

Hope everyone enjoyed this year’s Marion County Fair even in the hot weather.

Welcome to August and looking forward to a cooling off soon.

We would like to thank everyone for their donations to the senior center, and are reminding everyone to come to our ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 with musical entertainment from Trail Song Willie of Herington.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

In addition to thanking volunteers able to lend a hand during the week, we also want to thank the kitchen staff and senior center board members for all they do too.

The cost of meals for those ages 59 and under is $4.50 and those over age 60 is $2.75.
