HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER

June is here and so are warmer temperatures. Please drink plenty of water and, for those who need a break from the heat, stop by the center to cool off and enjoy a meal, fellowship and a program.

Darlene Schroeder will present gardening tips June 6.

The senior center is hosting this week’s meal at the Farmers’ Market June 7. The menu includes pulled pork, potato salad, fruit, cookie and water for $6.

All proceeds from the meal will go toward supporting the center and help with expenses.

The next board meeting is at 9 a.m. June 11.

Mary McFadden of Peabody, who does foot health care at the center, said the reason she comes every other month is because she needs at least five foot care appointments for a...

We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

Mary Lake of Lawrence will be here May 30 to talk about her book, “Departing.”

Please come and join us for a meal and her program.

Cowboy poet and singer Roger Rider from western Kansas is here June 1 to provide us with a program.

June menus are ready to be picked up or if you like to volunteer, call or stop by to find out how.

Everyone is welcome, no matter what their age, to have lunch with us. Meals are $2.75 for 60 and older and $4.50 for people 59 and younger.

For those who would like to volunteer, they can get a free meal the day they work.

Thank you to everyone who supports our center by coming for lunch and to the volunteers, Meals on Wheels...

The center is planning several events in the coming weeks with Bingo kicking off activities Wednesday, May 23.

We would also like to encourage everyone to wear their summer hats May 25.

This month’s birthday dinner was scheduled May 21 because the center is closed for the Memorial Day weekend May 28.

Come join us after lunch May 30 when Mary Lake of El Dorado will talk about her first novel, “Departings.”

Born in El Dorado, she will chronicle life in her hometown and in Eureka, where she grew up. The book, according to information about it and the author, deals with the impact of El Dorado’s oil boom and ups and downs of those living there in the 1920s, who started out with so much.

Our business meeting is at noon on Wednesday and May 23, Haris Zafar of Wichita will provide hearing aid checks.

The center is closed Monday, May 28, in honor of Memorial Day.

The need for volunteers continues and anyone who helps will get a free meal that day.

Also, please come and join us for a meal. Everyone is welcome no matter what their age. Meals are $2.75 for those 60 and older and $4.50 for anyone 59 and younger. It’s a great price for a meal and, with school almost out, the whole family can come.

The coffee pot is on by 8 a.m. and we would like to see you here.

Activities this week include Bingo May 9 and Show and Tell May 11.

For Show and Tell, we are asking people bring anything to share. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13.

Footcare will be available May 15 by appointment and Haris Zafar of Wichita will be here May 23 to do hearing aid checks.

The center is a good place to enjoy a meal and fellowship.

The need for volunteers continues and the schedule is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Anyone who assists in setting tables, cleaning up and helping with drying dishes is welcome to a free meal that day.

Meals are $2.75 for those 60 and older and $4.50 for anyone 59 and younger.

Reservations are due on or before 9 a.m. the day of the meal.
