The senior center is this week’s meal vendor at Hillsboro Farmers’ Market starting at 5 p.m. June 23 on the William F. Schaeffler House Museum grounds, corner of Grand and Jefferson streets.

The menu will include pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, fruit salad, cookies, tea and water for $6.

The center is having its birthday dinner June 27 with Janet Blue of Marion providing entertainment at 12:30 p.m.

We would also like to thank everyone who donated pies for the Bike Across Kansas fundraising event. In total, 30 pies were donated and all proceeds will help with on-going expenses and repairs at the facility.

One such on-going financial concern is the need for roof repairs. Any donations or memorials...

For those wanting to have their hearing aid checked, Haris Zafar will be at the center at 11 a.m. June 15. Foot care will be available June 23 and anyone interested is asked to call for an appointment.

Volunteers are always needed at the center, and we would like to thank everyone who helps to include Meals on Wheels drivers, the staff and board members.

Join us for a meal at the senior center. The cost for those 59 and under is $4.50 and over age 60, the price is $2.75.

HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER

Hope everyone is staying cool from the hot weather.

Activities this week include Hillsboro Police Officer Brad Richards and K-9 unit at 12:30 p.m. June 8.

Senior Citizens’ Day is June 9 and we encourage everyone to wear red, white and blue on Flag Day June 14.

Haris Zafar will provide hearing aid checks beginning at 11 a.m. June 15.

The senior center board is asking if anyone has paint they want to donate to the senior center. We are needing a facelift and plan to paint the inside walls of the bathrooms, kitchen and other areas.

If someone would like to donate their time to help, let us know.

We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day holiday.

Activities in June include “Show and Tell” at 12:30 p.m. June 1, and we are asking participants to bring anything to share.

Doughnuts and coffee will be served at 10 a.m. June 3 and we encourage people to stop by and visit.

Diana Costello of Marion will be here at 12:30 p.m. June 7 to talk about cooking with herbs in making a special meal.

Mary McFadden of Peabody will be here for foot care June 23. Appointments may be made by calling the center.

We are always looking for program ideas and encourage anyone with suggestions to call.

The center is also looking for volunteers, and with school out, some people might be able to help.

We will have Bingo May 25 and will be closed for Memorial Day, May 30.

Remember to drink lots of water during warmer weather and for those wanting to get out of the heat, stop by the center for a cool drink and good meal.
