• DORIS E. BARTEL, 78,
a homemaker of McPherson and formerly of Hillsboro, died March 6 at McPherson Hospital.

She was born Feb. 13, 1934, to Henry K. and Agnes E. (Linden) Willems of Hillsboro. On July 3, 1954, she was married to Oren Lee Bartel, who predeceased her Jan. 2. 1994.
Survivors include son Rick and Deidre Bartel of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughters, Debra Bartel of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathleen Bartel of Tualatin, Ore.; brothers, Raymond and Dolores Willems of McPherson, and Richard and Geraldine Willems of Wichita; sister, Virginia and LaVern Weyand of McPherson; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

• gladyS l. (carr) knapp, 93,
of Marion, died March 7 in Mission, Texas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Valley United Methodist Church, Marion. Burial will be at Marion Cemetery.
She was born July 2, 1918, to William A. and Bertha Willey Carr in Kearney County. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Loren Wedel and Richard Knapp.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Wanda Carr of Marion; step-children Cheryl South of Plattsburg, Mo., Richard Lee Knapp of Monte Vista, Colo., Margaret Shields of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Charles Knapp of Chandler, Ariz., Mark Knapp of San Francisco, Calif., and Benjamin Knapp of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; along with several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
• DON A. KRAUS, 62,
a farmer and rancher of Marion, died March 9 at Wichita.
Services were Tuesday at St. John Nepomucene Church, Holy Family Parish, in Pilsen. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.
He was born March 31, 1949, to Raymond and Rita Friess Kraus in Wichita. On June 5, 1971, he was married to Vickie Vajnar, who survives.
Other survivors include sons Brendan and Tina and Nick and Stephanie, all of Marion; daughters Melanie and Jeremy Dunn of Coldwater and Kristi and Chris Mercer of Topeka; brothers Leroy of Marion, Dennis and Paul, both of Wichita; sisters Alice Trego of Saw Grass, Ill., and Lori Siebert of Marion; his mother and 13 grandchildren.

• wILLIAM “GAYLE” mcWHIRT, 71,
an over-the-road truck driver of Peabody, died March 7 at Newton Medical Center.
Services were March 12 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville. Burial was at Robbins Cemetery in Coffeyville.
He was born Sept. 1, 1940, to W.T. and Faye Ahrens McWhirt in Lyons. In 1962, he was married to Shirley Ann Brack and to this former union his children were born.
Survivors include children Don McWhirt of Bunker Hill, Raelene “Rae” and Todd Heitschmidt of Marion and David McWhirt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister Mary and Jerry Kemerling of Bartlesville, Okla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
