Mary Lee Phillips, 70, retired secretary/receptionist, schoolteacher and clerical worker, died Jan. 19 at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Services were held Jan. 22 at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson, with Larry Harvey officiating. Burial was at New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery. She was born Aug. 11, 1929, to Emil L. Johnson and Emma Erickson in McPherson. On June 3, 1951, she was married to Wayne C. Phillips, who survives her. She is also survived by two daughters, Kathi Fischer of Hays and Marcia Hudson of Buhler; a brother, Marvin Johnson of Topeka; a foster brother, Alfred V. “Freddie” Johnson of Breckenridge, Minn.; and five grandchildren. Memorial funds have been established for the Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis Association and the First United Methodist Church.
