Wanda Hook, 60

Wanda Hook, 60, receptionist at Tippin Dental Group in Newton, died Sept. 30 at her residence in Hesston.

The funeral was Oct. 2 at Hesston Mennonite Church with pastor John Murray officiating.

She was born Oct. 11, 1946 to Raymond and Pauline (Paxton) Woods in Pratt.

On April 17, 1966, she was married to Arlis Hook, who survives.

She is also survived by her mother of Hillsboro; a son, Brian and Rachel Hook of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Deborah and Marlin Hoge of Hesston; a brother, Douglas Woods of Tulsa, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas and American Cancer Society.

Alice Harms, 79

 

Alice F. Harms, 79, homemaker, died Sept. 12 at her home in Parsons.

The funeral was held Sept. 18 at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. She was buried at Grace Hill Cemetery east of Newton.

She was born Nov. 20, 1927, to Peter D. and Mary (Funk) Pankratz in Hillsboro. On Aug. 3, 1952, she was married to Sylvester Lee Harms who predeceased her in 2005.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen and Kathy Harms of Tucson, Ariz., and John and Paula Harms of Leawood; a daughter, Sheila and Sam Lyle of Parsons; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with Mennonite Disaster Service.

Ida Benda, 85

 

Ida Benda, 85, a former dental assistant, died Sept. 5 in a Madera, Calif. hospital.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 11 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. She will be buried at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 in Holy Family Parish Cemetery in Pilsen.

She is survived by a son, Scott and Susan Benda of Eagle, Ind.; a daughter, Gwen and Bob Craig of Madera; and three grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with St. Joachim’s Church Building Fund, 401 W. Fifth St., Madera, CA, 93637.

Max Bura, 96

 

Max Bura, 96, former owner of Storer Refrigeration in Wichita, died Aug. 28 in Mooresville, Ind.

The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampa.

He was born Sept. 10, 1910, to Maxmilion and Julia Pecinovsky Bura in Ramona. He was married to Beatrice Ucker, who predeceased him.

He is survived by a son, Michael Bura of Monrovia, Ind.; a daughter, Marlene M. Yaw of Monrovia, Ind.; a half-brother, Aaron Bura of Emporia; a half-sister, Miriam Riddle of Mesquite, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Clinton Bentz, 79

 

Clinton Bentz, 79, retired Kansas Department of Transportation employee, died Aug. 24 at Newman Regional Health Center in Emporia.

The funeral was held Aug. 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville, officiated by pastor Alan Stahlecker. Burial was in North Tampa Cemetery.

He was born March 21, 1928 to Herman and Sophie Bentz in Hope. On May 29, 1960 he was married to Elaine Young, who survives.

He is also survived by a son, Tim Bentz of Marion; two daughters, Cindi Smith of Lebo and Jeannette Bentz of Prairie Village; a brother, Ted Bentz of Stover, Mo.; a sister, Ellen Alvarez of Abilene; and three grandchildren.Oran Graham, 76
