Vernon Goentzel, 87

Vernon Goentzel, 87, former International Harvester store employee in Marion, died Feb. 5 at the Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.The funeral was Feb. 9 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion. He was buried with military rites at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.
He was born March 17, 1920, to Peter and Mary Goertz on the family farm near Marion. On Sept. 16, 1949, he was married to Wanita Ewert, who survives in Hillsboro.
He is also survived by a son, John and Marlene of Marion; two daughters, Jocelyn Classen of Marion and Rose Mary and Craig Loewe of Colorado Springs; a brother, Ben of Durham; a sister, Ruth Goentzel of Hillsboro; and seven grandchildren.

Kathleen Ann (Woelk) Gray, 58, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Hillsboro, a nurse, died Feb. 11.She was born July 1, 1949, to Harold and Lou Woelk in Goessel. In 1971, she was married to Raymond Gray, who survives in Colorado Springs.
She is also survived by a daughter, Amy and Bill Sharrah of Nunn, Colo.; a son, Brian Gray of Falcon, Colo.; her parents of Hillsboro; a brother, Jim and Rachel Woelk of Gunnison, Colo.; and a granddaughter, Amber.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with Pikes Peak Hospice of Colorado Springs, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Ste. 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
Esther Loy, 81

Esther W. Loy, 81, elementary school teacher, died Feb. 4 at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.The funeral was Feb. 8 at Moundridge United Methodist Church. She was buried at Mound Township Cemetery, Moundridge.
She was born Dec. 19, 1926, to Phillip and Elsie (Bruns) Bentz in Tampa. On Aug. 24, 1947, she was married to Harvey S. Loy, who survives.
She is also survived by a brother, Otto Bentz of Tampa; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial funds have been established with Moundridge United Methodist Church or the Arthritis Foundation.

Esther Plenert, 93, former school cook, died Feb. 7 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11 at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. She will be buried at 2 p.m. at Johannestal Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
She was born March 18, 1914, to Peter Schmidt and Eva Goertz Schmidt in Lehigh. On March 18, 1934, she was married to Edwin Plenert, who predeceased her.
She is survived by two sons, Jerald and Sherry Plenert and Allen and Karen Plenert, all of Canton; a sister, Dorothy and Bob Laird of McPherson; a sister-in-law, Lynnette Schmidt of Newton; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two...

Doris Louis, 85, retired Federal civil servant, died Jan. 29 at Love and Care Adult Family Home in Mill Creek, Wash.There will not be a formal funeral service. She will be buried with her husband, Lawrence G. Louis, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, Wash.
A twin, she was born on Aug. 24, 1922, to Morgan and Mary Lewis in Marion.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in law, Gwen and Steven Kerber of Bothell, Wash.; a sister and brother-in law, Dorothy and Leo Scharenberg of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
A memorial fund has been established with Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation, 425 Pontius Ave. N, Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98109.
