Peabody cellist to perform at Emporia

Susan Mayo of Peabody, a cellist at Emporia State University, will present an afternoon of chamber music duets at 4 p.m. June 24 in Heath Recital Hall on the ESU campus.

Mayo will be joined by music faculty members from ESU, Wichita State and Kansas University.

Mayo is a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and the Music Theatre of Wichita Orchestra, and is the principal cellist with the Newton Mid-Kansas Orchestra.

?Salty Christians? is hymn sing theme

This month?s community hymn sing will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The event includes singing, prayer and Scripture reading. Those attending will have the opportunity to select favorite hymns to sing.

Steve Vincent, event coordinator, said the theme for the evening is ?Salty Christians.?

Free child screening in Marion June 26

Marion County Early Inter?vention Services is offering a free screening for children from birth through 5 years old Tues?day, June 26, at the Marion Presbyterian Church located at Lawrence and Elm streets.

Appointments will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the screening, development will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing also will be screened. This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete.

All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.
