Library offers help with enrollment

Hillsboro Public Library will host assistance for those needing to enroll in health insurance. Open enrollment closes Jan. 31.

Assistance will be provided by Health Ministries Clinic of Newton from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the library at 120 E. Grand Ave.

Be sure to bring for every member of the household: an active email address and password; birth dates; Social Security numbers; income information such as W-2, 2012 tax return and paycheck stubs; immigration documents and any information about employer-covered insurance. Painting workshop in Marion Feb. 1

Marion Parks and Recrea?tion is offering a ?Plant a Little Love? painting workshop from 6:30-9 p.m. Feb. 1 in the basement of the Marion Community Center.

The workshop, intended for participants ages 13 and older, will cost $15. The fee includes a 16×20-inch canvas and use of supplies.

Huelskamp rep

to assist taxpayers

A staff representative from U.S. Representative Tim Huelskamp?s Kansas office will be available to meet individually to hear taxpayers? IRS-related concerns from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 5, at Hillsboro City Hall.

Constituents seeking assistance are encouraged to schedule an appointment by contacting Huelskamp?s Hutchinson office at 620-665-6138.

Free screening

in Peabody Feb. 9

Marion County Early Intervention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through age 5 Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Peabody. Appointments will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the screening, development will be checked in the areas of cognitive, motor, speech and language, and social and emotional. Vision and hearing also will be screened.

This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete.

All children are welcomed, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.

Burns church to show ?War Room?

Burns Countryside Church will show the movie ?War Room? Jan. 31.

This Christian movie demonstrates the power of prayer. A meal is planned for 5:30 p.m., and the start of the movie for 6:15 p.m.

The church is located 1.5 miles northwest of Burns on 20th and Yarrow.

SNC to present concert Feb. 1

The Hillsboro High School select vocal ensemble Spirit-N-Celebration will present a concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 in the high school auditorium.

Students in the group will perform solos and duets of their own choosing, as well as several ensemble pieces and a choreographed version of Darius Rucker?s ?Wagon Wheel.? The public is invited to attend.

Students also will sell Singing Valentines before and after the performance. The deadline to purchase Valentines with a rose is Feb. 1; the deadline for singing Valentines only is Feb. 5.

Relay for Life sets

meeting Jan. 26

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Marion County 2016 is having its first planning meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in the basement of St. Luke Hospi?tal, 535 S. Freeborn, Marion.

This year?s event is Aug. 13 at the Marion Warrior Stadium.

HRC to offer herb cooking class

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Chef Rob Scott are offering an ?Herbs & Dessert Class? from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, and Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Hills?boro Middle High School.

Scott has worked in a professional kitchen for the past 15 years, with eight years as food service director in the healthcare setting.

The class, intended for high school freshmen and older, will have a six-student minimum each night. The fee will be $20 and participants are asked to bring an apron and sharp knife.

The deadline to sign up is Friday, Feb. 5.

Goessel garden club meets Jan. 28

The Town and Country Garden Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Bethesda Home, 408 E. Main St., west end meeting room. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call Luanne Soukup at 620-367-2410.
