Couple to celebrate 70th anniversary

Levi Brown and Georgia Dick eloped Oct. 3, 1942, at 18 years old with Judge Hargett of Marion officiating.

They have two children to include JoAnn and husband Mark Taku and Jerald Brown.

While some people said the marriage wouldn’t last, the couple is celebrating 70 years of marriage.

Couple to celebrate 60th anniversary

Arthur and Violet (Schmidt) Wedel are celebrating 60 years of marriage.

They were married in a double-wedding ceremony with Violet's sister and her husband in Missouri Sept. 14, 1952.

They took their honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls, Canada.

She was born and raised in Rich Hill, Mo., and husband Arthur was raised in Canton and rural Tampa.

The couple met when he was hired as an electrician for Violet's family home.

In addition to working as an electrician and grain elevator steel worker, he was a farmer and a salesman for Moorman Manufacturing Co.

He retired from Moorman in 1982.

She worked in the dietary department at Parkside Homes and retired in 2007 after 30 years. They continue to...

North Newton couple reach 65th

Oliver and Elizabeth (Busenitz) Unruh celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Sept. 10.

They were married in 1947 at Emmaus Mennonite Church at Whitewater and will be celebrating their anniversary by having a small family gathering in October.

Children of the couple are Viv Nabhani of Greenville, S.C., Vern and Sherry of Fayetteville, N.C., Charlie and Lynn of Marion, Carol and Dave Abrams of Phoenix, Ariz., and Trish and Bob Miller of Goshen, Ind. They also have 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Couple celebrated 60th anniversary

Glen and Mary Lou (Voth) Unrau of rural Newton, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 11 with a catered party hosted by the couple’s children.

They were married June 12, 1952, at Tabor Mennonite Church in Newton.

Glen worked as a farmer, school teacher and farm equipment dealer/salesman. His wife is the owner and operator of Hairlines in North Newton.

They have four children who include Lynel and Vickie (Frey) Unrau and DeAlan and Alma (Kaufmann) Unrau, all of rural Newton, Vance and Candy (Juhnke) Unrau of Moundridge and Lucia Unrau and Peter Terry of Bluffton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The anniversary party was for family and friends.

Ramona couple to celebrate 70th

Alfred and Darlene Sondergard of Ramona are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary Sept. 6.

They were married Sept. 6, 1942, at the home of her parents.

Louis and Joyce Maurer of Hillsboro are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
