Robert Alkire

 

Robert Alkire, 75, retired employee of City of Florence maintenance department, died May 4 at Newton Medical Center.

The service was held May 8 at the Christian Church of Florence with Roger Scantlin officiating.

He was born Sept. 14, 1931, to Ambrose and Eva Coffman Alkire in Stella, Neb.

He is survived by two sons, William of Washington State and Kenny of Stillwater, Okla.; two daughters, Sheila Thouvenell of Marion and Elizabeth Crow of Stillwater; and eight...

Jeff and Julie Hanschu of McPherson announce the birth of a daughter, Evelyn Marie, born May 4 at Salina Regional Medical Center.

She weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

She joins brother Benjamin, 2 1/2.

Grandparents are Lyle and Carol Hanschu of Lost Springs and Rich and Jan Hilgers of Ogallah.

Great-grandparents are Viola Reeves of Wichita, the late Warren Goentzel, Dick and Evelyn Seigrist of Sterling and Jim and Betty Hilgers of Hays.

Also receiving recognition but not present at the meeting were Lloyd Pagenkopf and Jim Ronsick.

Chat and Dine plans May 5 potluck

Marion County Lake residents past and present will have their monthly Chat and Dine potluck meeting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the South Lake Hall.Hillsboro bands, choirs plan concerts

The Hillsboro middle and high school bands, directed by Gregg Walker, and choirs, directed by Lynn Just, will be presenting their final concerts on Thursday, May 10, at the Fine Arts Festival.

Middle-school bands will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the HHS Auditorium. All choirs will perform beginning with sixth grade at 7 p.m. in the HHS gym.

The HHS band and jazz band will round out the evening at 8 p.m. in the auditorium.

The Hillsboro Senior Center will observe the National Day of Prayer onThursday, May 3. Sharon Ressler will speak on “Grieving the Loss of aSpouse.”

A craft activity titled “April Showers—May Flowers” will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7.

MaryMcFadden will give foot care by appointment from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.Tuesday, May 8. Former teachers will be recognized for NationalTeacher’s Day.
